Description: Organizations are all around us including in the news, as part of our own work, as well as connected to our daily experiences. For this assignment, you will be tasked with analyzing an organization that you are familiar with – an organization you have been a part of. You will draw connections from course materials/concepts and apply them to your particular organizational experience. For example, you might draw on organizational leadership theories, or systems approaches, or critical/cultural/concepts. This assignment will involve you writing a 1000 - 1250-word paper using APA Style to document your analysis. More details about this assignment will be posted to D2L.

Steps for Completing Assignment:

1. Pick an organization that you have been a part of that will help explain components/the experience of the organization.

2. Provide an introduction paragraph that explains what you are writing about and why you are writing about it. Preview sections of your paper here.

3. Describe your organization (1 page)

4. Describe why your artifact is an organization. You might define what an organization is and apply it to your artifact.

5. Describe organizational communication concepts. This is where you will want scholarly sources (outside of the textbook) to help define, outline, and explain particular concepts. Why are these particular concepts important? (2-3 pages)

6. Apply those concepts to the organizational artifact. Where do parts of your concept converge and diverge from the artifact? (1-2 pages)

7. What did we learn from this application? What’s the “so what?” What was interesting about our conceptual application? How do these implications align with previous research? Think about using scholarly sources here. (1 pages)

8. Establish a conclusion paragraph that reviews the sections of your paper, provides us with the main point, and leaves us with an impactful concluding sentence or thought.

9. Use 5 scholarly sources to support your ideas such as the description of your artifact, the concepts you are applying, and the implications from those concepts

10. Add a Reference page and a cover page in accordance with APA style guides. Don’t use MLA or Chicago or footnotes or your own made up version of a style guide. Check out Purdue OWL’s APA style guide if you have questions. This includes a Running head, page numbers, in-text citations, and end-text citations.

11. While you will be using APA. Times New Roman 12 point font, 1 inch margins, double-spaced. 1000-1250 words of text does not include the reference or cover page.

12. PROOFREAD! Have friends proofread!! Have strangers proofread!! Then Proof it AGAIN!! Look for argumentative consistency, spelling, grammar, punctuation, APA cohesion, etc.
