COLLEGE lite-RESEARCH PAPER RUBRIC 1198 - ENV4930 & ENV5930 - Special Topics Env & Special Topics in Environmental
Engineering - Sections RH1 - Fall 2019 December 4, 2019
Purpose of the assignment: To show a basic understanding of how the Sustainable
Environmental Engineering (SEE) Principles and Rules are applied to real life situations
(including research, case studies, and projects)
Method: Reading high quality information (data, research, and experts’ points of view) gathered
from a variety of primary sources and applying critical thinking skills: analyzing / evaluating /
interpreting / inferring. All the sources have been selected by the Instructor.
Notes:
A minimum of 3 references must be used to create the paper. All sources must be properly cited and referenced.
Within the development of the paper it is required that students highlight (plainly highlight in their paper) all the SEE definitions, concepts, and principles learned throughout the course of
the semester (use the textbook).
The paper should be 2,500 to 4,500 words.
A maximum of 5 diagrams, figures, or table (pics) form the original sources may be included. It has more value that the student creates at least one simple table or diagram or graph to
illustrate a point by integrating data or data and knowledge.
The first page of your Words® document must be the completed cover page. Copy/Paste “CoverPageAndCertificationOfAuthorshipV02” without changing the style.
Your Words® document must include a Footer or Page Number showing both the page number and the name of the student in each page.
Student’s paper shall consist of three main parts:
- I. Introduction: Gives an overview of the rationale used to organize the sections of the paper and introduces the content of each. The students learning goal must be clear in the last
paragraph of the Introduction, as shown in the SAMPLE.
- II. Analytical summary: Mid-sections of the report are creatively arranged. Organization and content illustrate level of understanding. Content shall reflect integrated information from the
references provided, and a little bit of Textbook, if applicable.
- Within the Analytical summary, exemplify the application of simple calculations or compare and contrast data, or explain in you on words some parts of the data to illustrate your own
understanding, etc.

(a) Analytical components should be mostly quantitative (use numbers and figures to make a point) Qualitative may include: explaining in own-words, distinguish, compare/contrast
Quantitative or Qualitative include: create a diagram, a table, a graph, etc.
Examples of Quantitative Analytical components:
- Create a diagram, a table, a graph, etc. using part of the data from one of the sources or from more than one source.
- Reproducing a simple calculation, or interpreting in own words quantitative data. Distinguish, compare/contrast based on numbers (quantitative evidence).
