“The first amendment protects speech about politics, religion, and culture most highly” (Stovall 254).Legal considerations will always be a part of the media writer's work. Although the First Amendment protects freedom of speech and the press, many laws and regulations can intrude on what a journalist writes or advertises. It's important as a reporter to make sure everything you post according to the first amendment is truthful and suitable for the public. The question is often asked: Does the First Amendment protect advertisements?

Advertising is indeed protected by the First Amendment (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. of the U.S. Constitution. However, advertising or "commercial speech" enjoys somewhat less First Amendment protection from governmental encroachment than other types of speech. The Federal Trade Commission, for example, may regulate speech that is found to be "deceptive." and the FTC keeps stepping up the types of commercial speech it regulates.(wikibooks.org) The society of professional Journalism's code of ethics also plays an important role when journalist are out in the field gathering news for report writing or advertising. It's important to be respectful of other's privacy while gathering as much imformation as possible for proper advertising purposes.
