The video I chose was about people getting addicted to medication and drugs that finally lead them to use Heroin. According to (Kundert, 2012), Heroin was only famous in the bigger cities but has now merged into smaller cities. She created an organization called F.A.I.T.H. to help people and families battling drug addiction.

According to (Ravitch & Carl, 2021), data analysis relates to all aspects of qualitative research and should not be isolated from one summative. Ravitch and Carl (2021) displayed a three-pronged approach to qualitative research that was described as processes, procedures, and phases of qualitative research. Data analysis begins as soon as data is collected and should be rearranged and rewritten as you gain data (Ravitch & Carl, 2021). However, there are many aspects and stages of data organization, such as a transcript (Ravitch & Carl, 2021).

According to (Ravitch & Carl, 2021) when a researcher speaks of a transcript, they are referring to a mode of representation of a piece of data. In addition, transcripts are primarily textual and can be generated from visual or audio data (Ravitch & Carl, 2021). Once data have begun collecting and organizing your data and generating your transcript, the next step is to pre-code (Ravitch & Carl, 2021). Coding entails organizing and labeling your data (Ravitch & Carl, 2021). Precoding is also a process of reading, questioning, and engaging with your data.

Coding involves reading regular recurring phrases, terms, interactions among actors, strategies, tactics, and participation patterns (Ravitch & Carl, 2021). Coding involves assigning codes to words or phrases to chunks of data. Creating a code set or group of codes is an iterative process.

The scholar of change video I chose was about a mother and nurse from Monroe Wisconsin whose name was Jackie Kundert. Jackie created an organization called F.A.I.T.H. to help people and families battling drug addiction.  The population in this small town was about 10,000 people where drug overdose had become a big problem among teens.

Once a big city problem is now felt in small cities and across the nation?

It takes help for the addict, but also for the family and community

Example of code: medications and drug addiction

Data: transcript

The coding process was chosen because mothers had sons and both were addicted to drugs that lead to heroin use and this lead to the death of both their sons. I chose to use  one word coding for this discussion as Saldana (2021), explains that a code in qualitative analysis is most  often a word or short phrase that symbolically assigns a summative, salient, essence-capturing, an attribute for a portion of a language based or visual data

Walden University (2016). States that an idea is approaching coding from different perspectives. If you code just one way, you get one picture. Taking another approach, you may get an entirely different picture. So once you get anything that you have observed, and want to include, in your qualitative data analysis into a language-based form, typically in the form of a transcript in a word processing document, you can then start the process of coding. We are looking for patterns, similarities in features, similarities in order of presentation, similarities of context, and similarities in meaning. According to Ravitch (2021), an integrated approach to qualitative data analysis includes formative and interactive nature of qualitative data analysis and underscores the value of intentionally analyzing and interpreting data.
