1. Cognitive Psychology- the scientific study of mental processes
Examples: “attention, language use, memory, perception, problem solving, creativity, and thinking
2. Major Contributors:
· Ulric Neisser: wrote Cognitive Psychology (1967), Cognition Reality (1976), Memory Observed: Remembering in Natural Contexts (1982).
· Jean Piaget: Nature vs. Nurture
· Sir Frederick C. Bartlett: known for studies of memory using meaning materials rather than syllables.
3. Main Events:
· Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)- effective for treating depression, with moderate help with anxiety
