Cognitive behavioral therapy is a talk therapy. It helps a person become more aware of their negative or inaccurate thoughts. It can be used with a other forms of therapies to treat or manage mental health disorders

What are the primary benefits of CBT and the treatment of depression?

CBT was developed in the 1960s

Dr. Aaron Beck completed experiments to test psychoanalytic concepts

Negative thoughts were categorized

Negative thoughts were examined to identify cognitive distortions

Dr. Beck helped patients correct their negative thoughts

Dr. Beck categorized negative thoughts by patients having negative ideas about themselves, the world and/or future.

Depression can be treated by using medication, but the best method of treatment is through psychotherapy.
