Mission

The Wakefield Track and Field team will work cohesively with our coaching staff and track team. We will aspire students of all speeds and skills. The Wakefield Track and Field team is one team, one unit, one machine.

At Wakefield we choose to involve all students to try the wide variety of events we coach. It is our duty as a coaching staff help find everyone’s niche on our team. We believe the team is one machine with many moving parts. Each part of our machine is a Wakefield student who will bring their own character and flavor to the team. The diversity of skill and people will build a stronger team and help create a more cohesive team atmosphere. At Wakefield we support each other and we make sure that every component of the our machine is in top shape for performance.

 Vision Statement

The Wakefield Track & Field program will build confidence, strength and mental toughness in your athlete and provide the tools they need to achieve greatness.

The Wakefield Track and Field team is a proponent of building student athletes for the future. For the past 10 years the track and field team has had the highest gpa of all sports at Wakefield. We will continue to maintain that legacy in the seasons to come. Our athletes will be molded to the have confidence in their selves and be breeding to understand the importance of sportsmanship. We will learn the pain of failure and the tears of success. At the organization we will fight adversity, achieve the unthinkable, and motivate everyone. The vision is for everyone to be their absolute best, for students to see the best in themselves and for parents to see growth and maturity in their children. This tradition will inspire rising athletes to join the program to build lasting memories with their teammates.

Core Values

1. Be your personal best.

As a student athlete there will be challenges in the high school years. There will be difficulties in training, time management issues with studies, and other extracurricular activities. I urge all student athletes to be their best version of themselves. As your coach I will support any and every endeavor you have. You do not have to run with me for Cross country, indoor, and outdoor track to be dedicated. Show dedication be your work ethic when at practice and in the classroom. Hard work will always breed success, it’s the catalyst that will drive you to be the best person you can be even after your time with me is over. “Success is peace of mind that is the direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming” (Wooden, 2005, p. 12).

2. Focus on mental toughness

At many times in our lives we will go through adversity and sometimes those adverse moments can become a distraction of the big picture. Stay focused on your goals, stay focused on your dreams. It takes focus to pace yourself correctly when you are trying to break 5 minutes in the 1600-meter race. It takes focus to take two tests and compete for regionals in the same day. It takes focus to strategically run your relay and position your team for the anchor. We will work on building focus in all aspects in our training programs.

3. Support the Warriors

The Wakefield Track and Field team is one of the largest teams on campus with rosters of over 100 athletes. I do not expect everyone on the team to personally know every team-mate, but I expect all students to support everyone who’s earned the right to wear the warrior uniform.). All athletes should be the loudest and proudest for our teammates. We want to be the loudest group at our events. We will show Warrior Pride!

Coaching Style

My philosophy of coaching centers on individual enlightenment and a strong community. I will encourage students to question the world around them and embrace the diversity of cultures plus news ideas. Sports opens one’s mind to the endless possibilities this world has to offer; I will challenge and inspire new perspectives in a way in which encourages the spread of knowledge and understanding. I provide unique learning experiences that offer each child the opportunity to tap into their true potential as an individual and as a contributing member of society. Students will acquire resources and knowledge of the sport by using tools to inquire about their individual events, as well as academics. My student athlete will have to meet high expectations in the classroom and on the track. With dedication, perseverance, and hard work, the classroom will strive to be above standards. As an educator I have the responsibility to my students, as well as the community, to bring consistency, diligence, and warmth to the athlete’s environment which will ultimately inspire and encourage great traits for the next level. It is vital that I provide my students with an engaging and developmentally appropriate coaching lessons and trainings in order to stimulate growth in all domains of development. I strive for the best learning environment for my students. My coaching will welcome, challenge, and support for every student who is willing to work.
