Music concert

Section I: Introduction (10)

(1) Performance:

The time had come for the long awaited day. This being my first time to attend a music concert I had a lot of expectation in my mind. I have always been a great fun of music made from different instruments and different rhythms. Today I will be experiencing a live performance from Ivano Ascari with the trumpet and Neil Mueller as the guest artists. This concert will contain other artists of course like Stefano Meloni, Robert Nagel, John Williams and many others who will present different pieces from various renowned artist on Ivano, trumpet. The performance will be one of the greatest since there will be many talented performers who will rock the crowd. The Staples family concert was ample enough to accommodate the huge crowd that had turned up to have this breathe taking performance which is a life time event.

(1) Performance date:

This concert has been in the lime light and it was advertised all over. The date had arrived, Thursday 4th October 2018. The concert was intended to start by 7:30pm in which most of the people had gathered in the hall.

(2) Describe the performance venue and stage setup:

I didn’t want to miss any part of this concert since I had eagerly waited for it. For this reason I walked towards the theatre somewhere I could see it all. The whole places was beautiful and eye catching, people would be seen everywhere taking selfies. The whole venue was set up with sound systems, lightings, posters, and every place was decorated to the heart desires. And as if that was not all, I could see workers in every corner making sure everything was working as planned. The stage was my favorite place, it had been set with every musical instrument you would think of. The stage was glowing and it was strategically set how the performers would kill the concert. I was impressed by the sound engineers who made sure the performance would reach anybody in that hall.

(3) Describe the type of group/ensemble performing as well as a brief reference to the overall musical presentation:

The performers presented great talents as each of them played their pieces. The songs carried away the crowd with feelings and emotions. Trumpets blew and each artist made the words in their piece seem like their own words. They lightened up Staples family hall and everything so lively. All this happens in jazz concerts and so we were experiencing the good music. This musical presentation was about vocalists but most of all it was all about jazz as Ivano the guest artist performed with his trumpet. Artists were using musical instrument such as orchestras, trumpet, pianos which are mostly used in a jazz set up.

(3) Describe your expectation regarding this concert experience:

This concert went beyond my expectations. I had in mind that it would be a great concert but I did not see it this great. Starting with the venue, it was well organized with everything placed where it was supposed to be, the staffs that were welcoming and friendly, and each and every performer would deliver to fulfill people’s heart. The instruments were used as supposed giving out tones that were produced professionally. This was overwhelming as every artist used his or her best instrument management skills.

(1) Title of Piece:

I enjoyed every part of this concert and every song played. However, I enjoyed Varieties in particular. This title was because of the composer’s wide range of career paths he had followed, thus the title varieties. The Composer also chose this title because he could play a variety of instrumental tools.

(1) Composer:

The composer of this piece is a renowned trumpet play, a teacher and definitely a composer, Robert Nagel.

(2) Compositional period/Genre:

The composition of this piece as 1924- 2016 and it is in the parent genre which represents jazz music.

(2) Performing Medium/Instrumentation:

He presented this using a trumpet and piano as he is known to deliver using this set.

(7) Discussyour overall impression of the selection you have chosen and why you enjoyed it:

I enjoyed this set mostly because the composer explains of how he had tried in so many careers and made through all of them. It is an inspirational piece that is expressed by Robert Nagel

(12) Reference the musical aspects of the piece including a discussion/description of three musical elements you observed during the performance of this selection:

· There is rhythm musical aspect in this piece. This is the timing of word and keeping up with the beat.

· I also observed some harshness in the music which is brought by harmony. This is a musical element that is explained as the combination of chords.

· The other element I observed was improvisation mostly common in jazz music. This piece is part of an improved jazz that many people may dictate as hard to define.

(3) Did you enjoy this concert experience – why or why not?

I really enjoyed this concert since it was my first experience. I got an experience of a lifetime from this artists and the guest artist was the best I have heard. The crowned chanted as Ivano left the stage asking for more performance. Due to the public demand he performed one last song that blew the whole place down. Everything about this concert was admirable and the jazz performers used their talents on instruments to manage the tones of their instruments.

(3) Based on your expectations for this concert, how did the concert meet or disappoint those expectations?

According to what I had imagined it would, this concert surpassed my expectations. One thing since it was on a Thursday I did not expect to see such a huge crowd gather in the staples family hall. Secondly, I expected a great performance since the guest artist is such a renowned artist for his great compilations. To my surprise it was way beyond my expectations and it made me learn a lot about jazz music.

(4) On a personal level, what will you take with you regarding this experience?

Being in a new environment since this was my first jazz concert to attend, I took with me that when you are in a new environment you have to learn their culture to integrate well with them. I had to learning this as people applauded and I didn’t know when am supposed to applaud. In every culture they have their norms and beliefs.
