CMGTCB/578 CIS Strategic Planning Course Information Description This course provides the knowledge to ensure students acquire skills to develop effective short, intermediate, and long- range strategic information systems plans. Course topics include the need for and contents of a corporate strategic plan; the relationship of information systems planning to overall organizational goals; assessment of the organization's current state; determination of information technology (IT), project, and management requirements; and the means of prioritizing and selecting systems projects.

You will develop a short-range strategic IS plan on ways to build competitive advantages. You’ll write an executive summary on assessing and improving the alignment between IT infrastructure and the organization’s mission and vision.
Competency 1 – Develop an IS plan aligning to organizational strategy for various ranges of time.
Learning Objective 1 – Describe the classic pyramid organizational structure and where information technology (IT) fits into that structure.

You will create a short-range strategic plan that focuses its analysis on organizational goals and the outsourcing of some IS or IT functions. You’ll create an IT department annual budget, including an executive summary that justifies the budget.

Learning Objective 10 – Explain the challenges of outsourcing.

You will author an intermediate strategic plan that manages an upcoming acquisition and merger. You’ll write a long-range strategic plan focused on creating a culture of innovation that will lead to organizational success.
