CMGTCB/554: IT Infrastructure Course Information Description This course focuses on the managerial level of knowledge and terminology for telecommunications and computer networks. This course covers the concepts and application of the Internet, server and storage architectures, and regulatory considerations.

By examining a company’s network diagrams, a student identifies the current IT infrastructure, IT standards, and IT protocols and then identifies potential technology improvements to increase business performance and creates a report to senior management justifying the need for the technology improvement.
Competency 1 – Comprehend how to build an environment that blends telecommunications and computer networks.
Learning Objective 1 – Justify the role of information technology in the business environment. Learning Objective 2 – Identify the IT manager’s role with information systems and information technology decisions for a business. Learning Objective 3 – Distinguish the role of IT Infrastructure in business performance improvement. Learning Objective 4 – Compare the roles of network models in an enterprise IT Infrastructure. Learning Objective 5 – Explain how protocols support accurate and timely network communications. Learning Objective 6 – Summarize voice, video, and data communications and network standards. Learning Objective 7 – Recommend communication and collaboration tools for a business.

By analyzing network diagrams of a company, a student authors a summary of risks to the current IT structure, recommendations for mitigating the risks, recommendations for IT infrastructure improvements, and a system management plan detailing the addition of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), or Supply Chain Management (SCM) system.
Competency 2 – Incorporate foundational architectures into IT.

Learning Objective 10 – Analyze the components of network risk assessment and mitigation. Learning Objective 11 – Explain how software applications utilize the IT Infrastructure. By utilizing concepts taught throughout the course, a student examines integration of e-commerce components into an IT system and security risks through the writing of an e-commerce proposal/implementation plan, an IT system security plan, and Request for Proposal (RFP) presentation.

Learning Objective 15 – Distinguish the role of IT Infrastructure in supporting e- commerce and e-business. Learning Objective 16 – Analyze how IT Infrastructure facilitates mobile computing. Learning Objective 17 – Evaluate the influence of social networking on business and IT Infrastructure. Learning Objective 18 – Develop a plan to secure the IT infrastructure.
