Assessment Description

Part 1: Further Interventions

As a reading/literacy specialist works with individual or groups of students, it is important for them to consistently monitor and track progress. Progress monitoring data can be used to plan or revise further interventions or to determine if further interventions are necessary. An efficient tracking system also allows other stakeholders, such as the classroom teacher, families, or the student to monitor and be involved in the learning.

Based on the results of “Intervention Day 2,” collaborate with your mentor to revise “Intervention Day 3” for each student. Provide at least one research article or resource to support the third intervention for each student. Implement the interventions and progress monitoring with each student.

Part 2: Supporting a Colleague with Resources

Just as the students need continual and specific support, so do the teachers. Providing colleagues with strategies, resources, and ways to implement them in their classroom is a great way to begin providing assistance to a colleague. Additionally, listening to the colleague and spending time discussing ways to provide specific support will help foster a positive, collaborative relationship.

Continue providing support to the same colleague you worked with in Topic 3. During your time together, accomplish the following:

· Present strategies and resources for the identified areas of need for the teacher to use with the whole group, small groups, and individual students in their classroom.

· Discuss with the teacher how and when these resources and strategies should be used and whether the teacher feels these strategies will be effective or not.

· Discuss other ways you can provide support to the teacher or other strategies and resources needed to help support the teacher and class in meeting each goal.
