poetry / research paper
· Due: Friday, April 26, 2019, at 8:00 a.m. EST
· Length: 5-6 pages (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, 1 inch margins, not including list of works cited)
· Format: MLA (including in-text citations and list of works cited)
· Submit to: Moodle (as a .doc or .docx file)
· Compare and contrast the poetry in your assigned collection with the poetry on our syllabus. Are there thematic similarities? Are there thematic differences? Additionally, you need to do research to learn more about the poems and/or poets. A good database to begin your research with is the Literary Reference Center Plus (access available through TU’s library website—see link below). You must incorporate at least one scholarly source into your essay. There is information about distinguishing between scholarly and popular sources here: http://www.library.vanderbilt.edu/peabody/tutorial_files/scholarlyfree/. Use textual evidence—both paraphrased and quoted directly—from the poems and scholarly source(s) to support, develop, and illustrate your thesis. Note that there are no rough draft due dates for this assignment. It is imperative that you work on this project throughout the semester.
