Introduction

Simply put, cloud computing is the delivery of computing services servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, intelligence and more over the Internet (“the cloud”) to offer faster innovation, flexible resources, and economies of scale. You typically pay only for cloud services you use, helping lower your operating costs, run your infrastructure more efficiently, and scale as your business needs change.

Measuring cloud success using technology rather than business KPIs diminishes the cloud effort to nothing more than a technology project, not a technology-enabled transformation of the business capable of creating real value.

Key Performance Indicator

ratios that target Cloud Computing adoption, comparing specific metrics of traditional IT with Cloud Computing solutions. These have been classified as cost, time, quality, and profitability indicators relating to Cloud Computing characteristics.

Key Return on Investment

IBM cloud analysis

Cloud revenue, which includes hardware, software and services for hybrid, public and private cloud solutions, and generated $18.5 billion over the last 12 months

Cloud now accounts for 23% of IBM revenue, up from 10% four years ago, IBM says.

IBM CLOUD ANALYSIS

Cloud and other so-called "strategic imperatives" are helping turn IBM's recent, five-year revenue decline into a distant bad memory.

The company reported its third consecutive quarter of revenue growth Wednesday, with second-quarter revenue an even $20 billion, up 4% year-over-year.

Amazon cloud analysis

Sales at Amazon Web Services climbed to $7.43 billion from $5.11 billion a year ago.

topping the $7.29 billion consensus estimate among analysts polled by Fact Set. AWS revenue represented 10 percent of total quarterly sales at Amazon.

Amazon cloud analysis

Operating income for AWS in the quarter was $27.18 billion, exceeding the $34.09 billion Fact Set consensus estimate.

The unit accounted for 58 percent of Amazon's overall operating income. AWS' operating margin was 29 percent, shrinking from 31 percent the prior quarter.

Google CLOUD ANALYSIS

On its fourth-quarter earnings call, Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) disclosed that its Google Cloud Platform unit and G-Suite software productivity tools became a $1 billion per quarter business in the December period.

Morgan Stanley says that based on Google management comments, Google Cloud itself had $1 billion of revenue for the fourth quarter and about $2.9 billion in 2017.

Google CLOUD ANALYSIS

In 2015, Google brought in Greene — a co-founder of VMware (VMW), whose virtualization software is used in many corporate data centers — to head its cloud business.

ALIBABA CLOUD ANALYSIS

Alibaba’s annual cloud revenue reached $2.1 billion for the quarter, up 103 percent. Alibaba is growing its market presence,

Not only with a firm hold over Asia, but also securing a spot as one of the top five cloud providers worldwide.

ALIBABA CLOUD ANALYSIS

The statistic shows the annual revenue of the Alibaba Group from 2010 to 2018. In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.

Chinese e-commerce corporation Alibaba recorded consolidated revenues of 250.3 billion yuan. This translates to approximately 39.9 billion U.S. dollars.

Conclusion

Cloud offers to the customer four types of cloud: hybrid, public, private and community which are helping the customers to have information about the services. One of the most important issues regarding cloud computing is represented by the security of the cloud, because companies are storing important data and they wish to have them well protected.

But the cloud security system is effective, because the information that is send to the user is encrypted and verified before the decryption. When a cloud is used the client has the benefit that he can access the information stored in the cloud from any device, at any time and from any place; but if the internet connection is not working properly the data stored in the cloud cannot be access and there are also some security issues because there aren’t any strict regulation for this.

Standards are playing an important role in the development of the cloud, because if the standards imposed by the relevant organizations are not respected, then innovation cannot take place.
