4. Joyce put him in this setting because of the previous house owners which was a priest and his uncle is a drunk. I  believe Joyce put more of a story twist to the plot. She really doesn't put his parents in it. Its alot of religion in it. Also the aunt is more religious about what he does. I believe that she put him there because what each brings to the story.

He described Fortunado as a drunk but someone who was very knowledgeable.  We feel sympathy for Fortunado because he is painted as someone who is respectable. You never want to see a man like that killed. Montresor couldn't care less about his victim. He cares more about the scenery of the cask than his victim.
