Dynamics – the desire for gradual dynamic change led to the replacement of the harpsichord by the piano or fortepiano.
The basso continuo was gradually abandoned during the classical period.
The new orchestra of the classical period include: violins, violas, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpets, timpani.
Vienna was one the music centers of Europe during this period.
Music of the Classical Style
Sonata-form movement – consists of three main sections: the exposition (theme is presented), the development (theme is treated in new ways), and the recapitulation (theme is return).
