Dissemination of Evidence-Based Findings

Presenting Research: Oral Presentations, Best Practices, and How to Develop

For oral presentations of systematic reviews specifically: be sure and introduce clinical problem, purpose of the systematic review, the methods used, results strategized, and implications for future research and practice. These are the important steps to oral presentations for systematic review. It is important to limit the slides to prevent distraction from the topic and to highlight what is said, develop a time clock system, use an active voice, and identify the major theme of the presentation.

Presenting Research: Publishing

Publishing evidence-based project should include the key components of PICOT such as: burning clinical question, searching for the best and latest evidence, critically appraising and synthesizing the evidence, critically implementing a practice change, and evaluating change. The best process is to review journals to see what journal that may specifically address the content of your research. After finding journals that address your content, you can then read the author’s guidelines and consider submitting your manuscript accordingly.

Components of a Health Policy Brief

The key components of a Health Policy Issue Brief: should include a clear statement of the issue, lead with a title on the masthead that clearly conveys the purpose, identify the policy issue, include the background information that highlights the major features, indicate the historical pattern of response, identify the inherent limitations, include common opposing views and refute them as well.

After completing this unit, you should be able to:

·  Discuss guides to effective oral presentations of research, best practices, and guideline development.

·  Describe the major steps in disseminating evidence through publication.

·  Explain the components of a health policy brief.
