The case of New York City police department officer Peter Liang shooting and killing unarmed Akai Gurley (age 28) in Brooklyn’s Pink Houses on November 20, 2014. The rookie officer shot Gurley in the stairwell when Gurley and his girlfriend were below Liang and his partner, Liang gun went off while holding a door shooting Gurley in the torso without warning, officers didn’t call for help but argued who should call their sergeant. Liang pleaded not guilty to charges during arraignment, was placed on modified desk duty and gun taken. Liang’s lawyer filed a motion to dismiss all felony charges but was denied, defense also motioned to at least drop some of the charges because per the defense it was an accident but judge denied the request. Liang was indicted for manslaughter and other charges for up to 15 years by a grand jury. Gurley supporters and family protested and family filed for wrongful death lawsuit against NYPD and Housing Complex. But Liang supporters (Chinese Americans) protested he was unfairly charged and made a target to lower the anger from police officer’s shooting unarmed black men.

Paul Manafort
The case I'm going to focus on is the Paul Manafort case. He was charged with laundering money into the united states from Ukraine where he worked for pro-Russia factions. He was discovered by Robert Mueller who was investigating Russia messing with the 2016 election. It was on July 26th that his house was raided by FBI agents with a warrant to search for tax and finance related documents. While a trial isn't expected until may next year, Judge Amy Berman decided to put him under house arrest because he posed a "flight risk" with a 10 million dollar bail. This is still a very current case so there is still a lot to happen with it, but I definitely going to be watching it to see what happens.
