Reflection
Now that you have reached the end of your graduate program, reflect on what you have learned and how this will impact your professional goals. Discuss what you found most valuable throughout your program, and at least three primary concepts that you are taking away with you. Additionally, how has your work on the capstone project over the past two terms helped to broaden your understanding of applied research and how it relates to policy and practice?
In your response posts, share the specific aspects of knowledge gained with your peers.

I have learned more than I could have imagined throughout this program in terms of homeland security and emergency management. It is hard to encompass all that I have learned into this discussion, but I will highlight the main spotlights. Firstly, this program has made me a better writer through and through. I look at my past writings during my bachelor's degree compared to now and it has become a night and day difference. I am able to clearly articulate my position and convey knowledge in a more effective way than I could have before this program. Secondly, this program, but more specifically this course, has changed my perspective on the different source material and how sources should be used. In my bachelor's, I focused more on the primary source material as a means to convey points about the past, but this program challenged me by finding more peer-reviewed sources that ensure the topic being discussed has been reviewed by others in the field.
I serve as a police officer and being in this program has improved my quality of life at work. As I said previously my writing has improved and I find myself writing my reports in a more clear and more concise manner. This makes me be a better officer and makes the community a better place. Also, taking in the lessons of being a servant leader within my profession by empowering others to grow and learn. Being a servant leader seeks to improve individuals to become better versions of themselves in and outside of their work-life (Gandolfi & Stone, 2018).
Three main concepts that I am taking away from this program are the Incident Command System, Crisis Intervention strategies, and the assessment of risk. I find these concepts sticking with me due to their connection to my profession as a police officer. Understanding these concepts puts me in a position to help serve my community in a more prepared way.
Thank you all for helping me grow as a student and individual. Good luck to everyone in the future.

Wow! I cannot believe we are almost done with our course work, and will all be headed off to being Masters in this field.
I found that the three primary concepts I have taken away from this program are mitigation, the Incident Command System, and Applied Research (something I had never done before this program). For my Capstone, I really enjoyed researching, guiding my way through the research proposal and learning more about the subjects at hand. It has helped me be a more attune reader and researcher. I am able to understand the processes of applied research more, and I think it has given me the ability to decipher the process of actual research, proposals and the like in a better way. I think this has been the most beneficial course due to the amount of different thinking it has involved, versus traditional school work and courses we have also had in this program.
I wish you all the best in your final project and future studies and endeavors! This has truly been a great time. I cannot believe how fast it has gone.

This is last week’s discussion question response I posted and the professor’s response ….
Expected Results
The first expected outcome is the unwillingness of the victims of human trafficking to share details with the task force members about their human trafficking experiences. There are several reasons why these victims are reluctant to talk with taskforce members. The first reason is that they do not see themselves as victims. Secondly, they might lack the awareness that these taskforce members can help them by arresting the person who trafficked them and prosecuting them. They might also be reluctant to share information because their traffickers might accuse them of being complicit in the trafficking situation. The second expected result is that these taskforce members can find it difficult to differentiate between sex work perpetrators and human trafficking victims. The majority of the trafficked persons are exploited to participate in prostitution by their traffickers, making it difficult for the Phoenix Human Trafficking Task Force to identify these victims. The third possible result is the lack of sufficient resources needed to address the issue of human trafficking. Although the Phoenix Human Trafficking Task Force has been provided access to needed resources to combat human trafficking, these resources are inadequate. The other expected outcome is that these human trafficking task force members are likely to mistake victims of human trafficking as immigrants. Instead of helping them, they decide to initiate the deportation procedure to be sent away from the United States of America to their countries of origin.
Relation to Literature Review
The unwillingness of the victims of human trafficking to share details is the first expected result of the study. This expected result is related to the literature review because it is found in the articles by Farell et al. (2019) and Warria et al. (2015). Both of these studies determined that one of the challenges that human trafficking taskforces have to deal with si the unwillingness of human trafficking victims to share information. The challenges of task force members to differentiate between sex workers and human trafficking victims are supported by the research articles by Farell et al., 2019 and Aronowitz (2020). Both studies determined that law enforcement officials faced challenges in differentiating a human trafficking victim engaged in sex work from sex workers. The lack of sufficient resources is supported by the article by Fordyce, 2012 which discusses the challenges that law enforcement agencies are facing. The last expected outcome of mistaken identity is supported by the findings of the article by Aronowitx (2010) and Fordyce (2012), which states that these victims are often mistaken for human trafficking victims.
Recommendations to Inform Policy
Authentic Leadership Principle
Authentic leadership requires leaders to be genuine, self-aware, and transparent. They need to have the ability to inspire loyalty and trust by consistently displaying the person they are and how they feel about the performance of others (Kellis & Ran, 2013). My study findings have several implications for organizational leaders and policymakers. Firstly, leaders and policy should use the authentic leadership principle to consider the suffering of human trafficking victims and set up policies. These policies will protect them and ensure that the cases of human trafficking are reduced and human traffickers are arrested and prosecuted.
Transformational Leadership Principle
The implications of the findings are that leaders and policymakers should put aside their interests and develop strategies such as providing sufficient resources and funding to the task force for them to address the issue of human trafficking. The transformational leadership principle requires leaders to work with team members and other employees and overlook their interests to identify the needed change. They must also create a vision that will guide the required change by influencing, inspiring, and executing the change with committed persons.
Distributed Leadership Principle
This leadership focuses on the practice of self-leadership instead of specific leadership. It is similar to shared, collective, and extended leadership practice, which can build the capacity for change and improvement. The research findings imply that leaders and policymakers should mobilize leadership expertise at all levels in the law enforcement agencies, including human trafficking task forces, to generate more opportunities for change. They are also to establish a capacity for the improvement for improvement of the Phoenix Human Trafficking Taskforce.
Collaborative Leadership
The result findings imply that leaders and policymakers should work together to develop strategies to address the issue of human trafficking. The collaboration should include the member of the Phoenix Human Trafficking Taskforce to ensure that all the challenges which have been identified are addressed.

FEEDBACK: You have a good start here. Keep in mind that the focus of your study must be to address the problem rather than to identify it. We already know that these are challenges faced in combatting human trafficking. Your study needs to focus on how these can be overcome, and what improvements can be made as a result of the use of the task force. We are not looking for why the problems exist (which is known) but how the problems can be addressed.
