Unit 4 Assignment: Persuasive Essay (Rough Draft)
Note: The final draft is submitted in Unit 6.
Having learned about informative and persuasive essays, as well as thesis statements, you are now prepared to begin putting together the final essay, which is due at the end of Unit 6.
In Unit 4, you will select a new topic for your final essay. Then you will complete the draft of the persuasive essay, which is due at the end of this unit. Your persuasive essay will examine either leadership issues or major policies in one of the following professional areas.
Select an area of professional interest to you and begin brainstorming policy or leadership issues related to that area of professional interest.
· Criminal Justice Administration
· Juvenile Justice Administration
· Law Enforcement
· Corrections
· Courts
· Fire Safety
· Emergency Management
· Homeland Security
Review the specific components to the persuasive essay.
Write a 1,300–1,750-word (excluding title page and reference list) persuasive essay based on the above topics.
Include the following components in your essay:
· Introductory paragraph
· Include your thesis statement (highlight your thesis statement)
· Include a discussion of at least four supporting points
· Supporting arguments and examples defending your position for each of the following:
· Body Section 1 (supporting point 1 fully presented)
· Body Section 2 (supporting point 2 fully presented)
· Body Section 3 (supporting point 3 fully presented)
· Body Section 4 (supporting point 4 fully presented)
· Identified concession to the argument and rebuttal
· Conclusive summary
In your paper, incorporate all of the following stylistic criteria: Interesting to read, Accurate, Supported, Precise, and Concise.
Format your work consistent with APA guidelines.
Include APA headings (at least level one).
Include a minimum of three peer-reviewed sources.
Cite your sources and include a reference list.
In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the assignment, a successful paper must also meet the following criteria:
· Include a title page and reference list in 10–12 point font (See Section 2.19 in the APA Manual for acceptable fonts and associated font size)
· Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained
· Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.)
· Writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful
· Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics
· Appropriate citation style should be followed
You should also make sure to:
· Include a title page with full name, class name, section number, and date
· Include an introductory and concluding paragraph and demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English
· Use examples to support your discussion
