What’s Wrong With Holden?/Here’s What You Should Do, Holden…
Spring 2019
Your next project will involve gathering, recording, and analyzing information about The Catcher in the Rye. The goal is to provide the reader with a better understanding of the novel’s main character, Holden Caulfield. Think about his behavior in terms of cause and effect. Your essay should focus either on reasons for his behavior (What’s Wrong With Holden?), or the results of Holden’s choices (Here’s What You Should Do, Holden…). If you choose the latter, include a section that presents advice/guidance (kind of like Old Spencer). Make sure to use research to support your ideas!
Here are the requirements:
1. 3-4 sources (books, articles, interviews, media, etc.)
2. A 2-page summary of the novel
3. A short essay (2-3 pages) that incorporates the information you gathered and supports some type of causal argument.
4. An MLA “Works Cited” in the essay (it doesn’t count as a page).
Deadlines:
Before beginning your essay, you should complete and submit the attached proposal. Try to have this done by Friday, 6/7. Essays, which should bet formatted according MLA guidelines, are due by Tuesday, June 11th.
