Traditional Food Pyramid v. The Citizens Bank Park Food Cycle

We are all familiar with the traditional food pyramid. Even if you are not, you can refamiliarize yourself with it from the image above. The base of the food pyramid is healthy natural fruits. This section is followed by vegetables. Then grains and nuts. And finally the very top of the pyramid is fats, oils, and sweets. Basically the things that everyone eats too much, but should realistically only eat sparingly. Inside of that section is a much less known group, referred to as the Citizens Bank Park Food Cycle. You can reference the cycle in the graphic below. This cycle starts with a Lager, which is the venacular for a Yuengling Lager, America’s oldest

brewery, but in Philadelphia can simply be ordered as a Lager. This is followed by a Schmitter. A local sandwich that is growing in popularity. It has all the traditional fixings of a Philly Cheesesteak, but the added decadance of extra cheese and Russian dressing. Another interesting difference is that it is served on a Kaiser roll as opposed to a long/hoagie roll. Immediately following this food of the goods, you have another Lager. Then you have desert, which customarily is a soft pretsel and water ice (note: a helmet sundae is also an acceptable substitute). Once you have completed the cycle it just keeps continuing. This makes the cycle self-perpetuating. The more you drink the hungrier you become which only speeds up the process. While this can becoming a very dangerous process, it is a delicious and enjoyable one, and no trip to the park is complete without several turns through the cycle.
