Citizen Kane is an American drama film which was produced in 1941. The film is praised by many people for its thematic and technical innovation. One of the technical aspects used in the movie is deep focus photography that allows focusing on all the distance planes from a close point to infinity (Welles 100-102). This was well explained by Giannetti as a deep focus shot. This means that the film is jam-packed with interesting scenes and depths which are mind-blowing. The film also received a lot of critics on its opening. The beginning of the movie can make people think that the film will be extremely boring. The main purpose if the paper is to discuss Citizen Kane film in conjunction with the observation made by Giannetti and reviews of other critics.

According to Giannetti, the film was very interesting, and everyone who saw the movie was amazed. Giannetti talks of the movie are unique and fitting in the American movies of the era which have produced by experts. The uniqueness and the interesting part of the movie made everyone go crazy about. The images are of high quality, and Giannetti continued to state that Wells concept which was simple and classic. Wells was an expert who is shown by the way he dynamically staged the film (Giannetti, 90-92). Both long and short shots were utilized in the film something Giannetti very effective for the production of a movie. The movie has more long shots as compared to the shot shorts which had a deep focus. Use of the camera shots was one of the styles which Wells used in the production of the movie as well as angles. Giannetti was also able to save some money through demonstration of the part of the set instead of using the whole room. To the viewers, it seemed that the whole room was utilized, but he is not the case.

Similarly, Giannetti shows that each of the shots illustrated visible metaphor of the window that was used. In low-key editing, lighting is need as well as low angle shot, and they were utilized in the movie. The proficient editing used had reliable content and illustrated the deep meaning of the movie. Flashbacks were also used in the movie, and this style was very successful (Giannetti, Louis and Jim 60-62). As an innovative approach, it was groundbreaking which involved storytellings which are very familiar to the audience. The stories were pulled together and use different systems of language. The synthesis looks at the angle of the cameras, drama, editing, lighting, and ideology. The film is very famous, remarkable and uses a narrative technique to make sure that the viewers understand the whole movie. Most of them find it interesting because of the visual symbolism which it combined. Though the film was produced in 1941, currently it is very famous and viewed by many people. Giannetti shows that the film was both socially and politically influential. Wells has a great influence on contemporary creative arts. Many find it unique and they have to repeat it several times.

Roger Ebert an American screenwriter and Journalist state that movie is very good as it demonstrates the lives of the people from when they are young. Use of the Rosebud to show that innocence in childhood, hopes and security and people could spend their life seeking to regain it (Welles 110-113). Roger Ebert show that the beginning of the movie indicates that Kane is dying and he alters rosebud as the last word. The viewers would be keen to find out its meaning. Ebert explains how flashbacks make the movie more interesting, and the chronology of the emotions is also set free. The movie has bravura visual moments such as Kane being a candidate and addressing the political rally, Xanadu, towers and the newspapers which have the news of the mistress of Kane appearing in the front page. Deep focus was also another way which Ebert say that it makes the movie to be fantastic and enable him to play trick perspective. The windows where Kane was seemed to be average size but when Kane moved toward the window, it seems to very far and at the same size. Ebert says that the film is great to be used in the twentieth century. The film visuals symbolisms show that it was produced by experts and people knew what they were doing. The movie is one of the favorite and impacts many people as it demonstrates various themes such interpretation of life which is very difficult and American dream myths.

The film has been criticized for its doubting beginning which leaves the viewers wondering if they should continue with the movie. The movie opens with death which was shot in some snow. The start of the movie should aim at capturing the attention of the viewers but not boring them. Those who are not determined in watching the movie, they can end up ignoring it due to the poor, uninteresting beginning. The beginning is described as unintentional and has stuff which is groaning inducing to the laughs. The critics state that the movie does not chronological play as it is comprised of the stuff and flashbacks which are disordered. The way the film has been directed, it can be easily understood by adults and can very difficult for young people to watch. Another critic is based on the Orson Wells is the director of the movie, the producer and the co-writer.

The deep focus of the photography shots had some exaggeration on the distances because of the wide-angle lens which was used. They help in the preservation of the sharpness of the focus especially on the distances o the people. Deep focusing needs cinematography to use a combination of the types of camera, light, and composition to come up with an effect which is desirable. In the case of Wells, he used an editing technique to dissolve the shots. Therefore, the critics come on the editing of the shots instead of using the combination of the cameras, light, and composition to come up with a cast that is clear.

In conclusion, the film is praised by many people for its unique way of presentation. It is very interesting to watch, and people repeat it several times. Giannetti refers to the movie as a great work because of the kind of the images and visual symbolism it uses. Giannetti state that Wells was a stage action dynamics and made people believe in camera shots in film production. It used camera movements and flashbacks to show stories. Long shots were used more as compared to the short shots, and this made the movie to be fantastic. The movie was had critics on its boring beginning where people would not think that the movie will be interesting.
