My personal experiences influenced my view on education since I was able to realize that education entails a broad area of learning. I have seen that people have varying cultural beliefs that influence their attitude on social factors. Christian world view is part of my cultural values since it helps me understand the wide demographic of Christians and how their personal experiences influence collaboration.

Part 1 - Social Justice Key Terminology

Term Definition School or Classroom Setting Description

Social Justice This is the consideration of every member of society to ensure they receive suitable economic, social and political provisions in an equal way.

Schools apply social justice to ensure all learners are provided with sufficient and comprehensible learning materials. Every learner’s intelligence is boosted depending on their level of understanding.

Culture This refers to the characteristics and lifestyle of people that is influenced by upbringing, religion and notions.

Schools consider every student’s culture since it influences their ability to apply different concepts learned in class.

Identity This refers to perception of who a person really is based on their characteristics and behaviour.

Identity is imperative in schools since it influences learners’ ability to collaborate with their peers.

Bias (including implicit bias)

This is a mental opinion formed by people in regards to matters and people around them. Implicit bias happens without people noticing where they form subconscious view of social settings.

This occurs in some schools where instructors and students may be biased against each other due to different social, environmental and economic status.

Diversity This refers to the comprehension that people are different in terms of gender, sexual orientation, race, culture, religion, physical status and financial factors.

Curriculum in schools involves the learning of different diversities and how learners can integrate their diversities for the common goal of education.

Social justice is a tool that society applies to remain impartial. It ensures every person is given what they truly deserve (Long et al., 2017). It is challenging for teachers to deal with diverse students since they may not know how to collaborate. An opportunity occurs whereby an environment is created for people from different upbringings for interact.
