"Disks and Printers" Please respond to the following:

There are two discussions here that need to be responded to thoroughly. Responses must be on APA format 150+words 1-2 legitimate verifiable sources per response.

SM’s post states the following:Top of Form

From the first e-Activity, identify the specific manufacture and model of one (1) magnetic disk, one (1) solid state drive, and one (1) optical drive. Evaluate the quality of each in terms of read and write speeds, access methods, storage capacity, longevity, and price. Recommend the device that would be the best suited for a home environment and the device that would be best suited for a business environment. Provide a rationale for your response.

Magnetic disk – Seagate Barracuda 4TB goes for around $100 is definitely not the biggest they can go up to 10TB. It uses 2TB platters combined with 256MB of cache which combining read/write speeds of around 165MB/sec. It is power efficient too with standby usage of 0.25W, idle of 2.5W and operating usage of 5W. Other drives are slightly faster, and maybe quieter but the price is where this drive is in the top 10. (Graham-Smith, 2018 )

Solid state drive – Samsung 970 Evo Plus review - Has faster transfer speeds, and lower prices. The read/writes sequential range from 3,500 reads MB/s to 3,300 MB/s depending on size. The random read with 4KB IOPS ranges from 250K to 600K and the random write is 550K. It features 96-layer V-NAND which is basically designed to stack higher and reach higher speeds. The price range is anywhere from $89 for 250GB to $249 for a 1TB drive. Samsung offers a five year warranty. (Lee, 2019)

Optical drive- The optical drive by ASUS is compatible with Windows, Mac and Nero BackitUp for Android. It comes with 8x DVD writing speed and supports +/- R DVD/CD format. It comes pre-installed with a backup utility and offers disk encryption. (Productsbrowser.com, 2019)

Home environment – ASUS helps to protect things like family photos and home videos and M-DISK dvd’s which is designed to protect from degradation and data loss for 1,000 years or more.

Business environment – Depending on what device you need a hard drive for, in my opinion if it is for a computer I would recommend a SSD because of the dependability and the speed of the drives. If needing a storage outside of a server, I would recommend a NAS. These are used in businesses because sometimes it is just easier to get a NAS and setup a NAS until something else is ordered. But a NAS is efficient, can be big in size and is something that a business can rely on.

From the second e-Activity, identify the make and model of one (1) laser printer and one (1) inkjet printer that are similarly priced. Evaluate the quality of each in terms of print speed (i.e., pages per minute), resolution (i.e., dots per inch), memory, color capability, duplex printing capability, cartridge price, cartridge printing capacity, and longevity. Next, recommend the printer that would be the best suited for a home environment and the printer that would be the best suited for a business environment. Provide a rationale for your response.

Laser printer – uses a laser to print, HP LaserJet Pro M102w Printer – can print dual band 802.11n wirelessly, first page out as fast as 7.3 sec print speed (black) up to 23 ppm, holds 150 sheet input tray, 100- sheet output, resolution black up to 600x600 dpi, HP Fast Res 1200 dpi quality, monthly duty cycle up to 10,000 pages, processor speed is 600 MHz, memory 128 MB, manual duplex, black toner cartridge prints up to 700 pages comes with 1 year limited warranty (can purchase up to 3-year warranty capability). (HP, 2019)

Inkjet printer – prints ink, uses ink cartridges, HP DeskJet 1112 Printer – First pate out (black) fast as 15 secs (color) fast as 18 sec, resolution 1200x1200 dpi (black) up to 4800x1200 dpi (color) print speed (black) up to 20 ppm, color print will print up to 16 ppm, print cartridges 2 (1 black, 1 Tri-color - cyan, magenta, yellow), black will print up to 480 pages and color will print up to 330 pages, print handling input about 60-sheets and print handling output is around 25 in the output tray. Duplex printing is manual. As with the laser printer this also comes with a one year warranty but a separate 3-year warranty can be purchased as well. (HP, 2019)

Home environment –An inkjet printer if they wish to print high quality color images. Different variety of papers such as glossy, or envelopes or can also be done using an inkjet printer.

Business environment – a laser printer may be perfect for the business use. They print faster than inkjet printers and hold more paper. However, they are better suited for the office use due to high printing capacity.

Magnetic Disk- Dell 462-6788 600GB SAS Hard Disk Drive Kit: Capacity 600GB, Speed 15,000RPM, Interface Types SAS Serial Attached SCSI, Form Factor 2.5, Rotational Speed (RPM) 15000

Solid-State Drive- Intel Optane SSD 905P Series - 380 GB Capacity, M.2 22x 110mm Form Factor, PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 Interface.  Read Latency indicates the elapsed time to execute a data retrieval task.  Measured in micro-seconds.

Optical Drive- ASUS DRW-24B1ST: 24X DVD R Writing speed, E-Green saves over 50% power consumption, AVRS technology reduces the vibration to maintain the best media playback

Home Use:  The ASUS optical drive would be best for home use because discs are not vulnerable to data loss due to power failure like volatile memory.  It is also not subject to wear like most non-volatile memory.

Business Use:  The Intel SSD would be best for businesses because SSD storage is much faster and durable.  In today's world, professionals travel and will need to be able to rely on the performance of their computers.   For any business professional, efficiency and reliability is critical.

The most significant difference between Inkjet and laser printers is that an Inkjet printer uses ink, which is suitable for low volume printing, and laser printers use toners, which is ideal for high volume printing.  After evaluating the quality of one laser printer (HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw) and one Inkjet printer ( Canon Pixma TS8050), the Inkjet printer is the best option for home use because it is suitable for low volume printing.  The laser printer is ideal for business purposes because it handles high volume printing.  Within an organization, many people will have to print on regular bases, and laser printers are built for heavy workloads.
