Unit 4 Graded Practice 1: Adding a Radius Server

Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a networking protocol that provides centralized Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting management for users who connect and use a network service. A RADIUS server is often used to secure remote locations on a wireless network.

RADIUS in Packet Tracer

RADIUS is a service that runs on a standard server in the user network. Start Packet tracer and drag a server onto the desktop.

Open the server and go to the services tab. Select the AAA service to open the RADIUS service. Turn the service on. Program the following information into the RADIUS server. Take a screenshot.

Go to the desktop and program a static address into the server

Add a wireless router and tablet to the desktop. Connect from the Internet connection on the router to the server using a cross-over cable.

Open the wireless router and change the SSID to Home. Then set a static address of 10.___.50.1. Don’t forget to Save Setting when you set the address and again when you set the SSID.

Open you tablet and select Config/Wireless0 and change the SSID to Home

Verify that you can contact the server by pinging from the tablet to the server. Take a screenshot.

Go back into the wireless router and set the Wireless Security to WPA2 Enterprise with the RADIUS server address and the shared secret password password. Click the save setting button. Take a screenshot.

Go into the tablet and change the Config/Wireless0 tab to use the WPA2 Enterprise security with the username of user1 and the password of password. Take a screenshot

Verify that you can ping from the tablet to the Radius Server. Take a screenshot
