Case Study 11.1

1. The waterfall project model failed in this situation due to a large and object-oriented project. The waterfall project is meant for small projects. The IT department’s finished systems have been rejected continuously due to the lead-time between the asking and delivering of the project which could be in 5 to 6 months, which in turn would lead to more features, expectations, and needs of the clients would change and become high. For the waterfall project to become successful the company would need to communicate with the clients regularly after each phase.

2. The agile methodology would correct some of these problems by the up-gradation and regular interaction with the clients help which will give the firm the ability to concentrate on the needs and wants of the clients. The new development cycle I would propose would be; plan for the project with the mentioned requirements, analyze the possibilities to achieve the goal within the deadline, create a design to accomplish the project, interact with the client with the proposed project model, changes should be made in the plan as client’s request, implement the design model and interact with the client at the same time,

and after each phase the firm should implement the latest feature in the project if at all possible.

3. The “user stories” and system “features” are critical components of an effective IT software development process due to the departments understanding of features and user stories aid in the firm’s decision making process, understanding of the requirements, and fulfilling the needs of the client. These components are also helpful to the firm to understand their own capability and effectiveness of their products and services, while also helping the company to avoid rejections from other companies.

4. An alternative development cycle for a software development process at Northwestern Regional Hospital would be as follows:

 Scope of the project should be defined in the initial step of the planning stage. All team members should understand the need.

 Sprint project should have the stages to establish separately. Each task should be explained in each sprint which will avois the overlapping of activities

 Establish a development team who takes care of the latest features.  Srum the project should be managed effectively by the project manager without

any issues within the team, while ensuring the project stays on track.  Once project is complete. Testing should be completed with the firm with the help

of the development team.  Firm should conduct a review meeting with the client once project is delivered

successfully.

With the completion of this cycle the rejection rate will be reduced and improve the effectiveness of the firm.
