Critical Thinking in Nursing / Critical Thinking in Nursing Practice
Overview
Critical thinking is a multidimensional process encompassing feelings, past experiences, and individual perceptions and biases. It is a necessary component for providing safe and effective patient care. A nurse who is proficient in thinking critically is confident, safe, independent, and ultimately has better patient outcomes and usually increased job satisfaction. Rosalinda Alfaro-LeFevre, RN, MSN, ANEF, once aptly described critical thinking as “the ability to focus your thinking to get the results you need.”
