Choosing and Validating Idea

The idea to solve inadequacy of skills

Most of the business industry members have been accused of failing to deliver as per the required standards. This axiom can take on a huge meaning when trying to figure out the causes of performance-based issues. For the analysis to be possible, the root problem has to be determined. Employee’s level of skills has a direct impact on organizational performance.

My idea of a quick fix towards the skills issues is enhancing Ability and Motivation. It should be noted that performance is a function of ability and motivation and mathematically it can be represented as; Performance = Ability x Motivation. Cast (2018) defines ability as a personal aptitude and comprehensive training as well as resources that are supplied by a particular organization. Motivation, on the other hand, refers to the product of commitment and desire (Harmon-Jones, Harmon-Jones & Price, 2017).

Through my research, the idea of enhancing the team's ability and motivation can solve the issues about the inadequacy of skills among the members. Before addressing any problem, it is essential to understand the root cause. An incorrect diagnosis can result in more problems. If a particular employee seems not to take enough of what he/she is required of, piling little pressure on them can facilitate their performance. However, if the ability is the primary issue, then putting pressure will make matters worse. There are four major causes of low capacity. "Over-difficult tasks. Low individual aptitude, skill, and knowledge. Evidence of strong effort, despite poor performance. Lack of improvement over time." it is very easy to mismatch people with the lower ability with the kind of job that they are assigned. This idea will enhance ability in members through the following five ways but strictly on a one-to-one performance.

i. Resupply.

ii. Retrain.

iii. Refit.

iv. Reassign.

v. Release.

Poor performance can, at times be as a result of poor motivation. When this becomes the situation, there is a need to work carefully with possible ways through which employee motivation can be enhanced in their various working environment. Three major critical interventions through which people's motivation will be enhanced.

i. The setting of performance goals.

ii. Provision of performance assistance.

iii. Provision of performance feedback.

Feedback from the testers

I presented my idea to the testers by engaging them by asking the questions in Appendix A.

On the question regarding the general comment regarding my idea, all testers admitted that this is a good idea. They also admitted the fact that enhancing ability and motivation in the non-performing firms is a better alternative that can aid better performance from the employees in terms of their skills enhancement, making the and the organization they are working for remaining relevant and competitive in the market (Miao et al., 2018).

Although they accepted my ideology of the idea, they made few contributions to the few issues that need to be altered to ensure that the idea adequately addresses the challenges they are meant to address. On the issue to do with the motivation they gave in several suggestions through which motivation can be enhanced. Their recommendations include recognition of the better efforts from the employees on better performances. This increases their motivation, and hence, overall performance. The second contribution is setting small and achievable goals. When employees achieve their set goals, they tend to remain motivated. Setting bigger goals, which at times they may fail to achieve, will lower their motivation. Their last contribution was the issue to do with celebrating the results. According to the testers, celebrating the achievements of the employees is a means of enhancing their motivation.

On the question concerning how much can be paid on the same idea, they were all in agreement that implementation of the idea should be left to the management of the organization. The administration will be responsible for establishing all the requirements for the implementation of the idea.

When responding to the flexibility and the compatibility of the idea towards the existing ideologies, a good percentage of the testers admitted that integration would be smooth. However, a few of them had it that the idea might not be flexible. The possible consequences of the idea were negligible. None of the testers was in a better position to point out the potential implications of integrating this idea. The testers viewed the idea as a long term investment that will be used in addressing the issues to do with inadequacy in the skills of employees.

Reasons for incorporating tester feedback

Incorporating testers when validating an idea comes with several advantages. One is that testers are capable of highlighting potential problems that might be associated with the idea to be implemented. This, therefore, will allow rectification of certain aspects before full implementation (Bleijenbergh & Van Engen, 2015). Testers are also well positioned to give in their insights concerning the idea, thus ending up making the idea even stronger and suitable to address the challenge it is meant to perform.
