Child Abuse and Neglect Analysis
According to the explanation given by Anne to her teacher, it is clear that she has undergone child abuse and neglect. The fact that she has unexplained bruises on her legs and arms and that her clothes are torn, and dirty is evident that she has been abused physically. The injuries do not match her explanation, which means that she is trying to hide some facts. In addition, it is easy to tell that Anne has been neglected according to her mother’s behavior and demeanor. For instance, she shows little concern for her child’s condition and blames Anne on the basis of lying to get attention. She also berates her by describing her with mean and negative words, which shows that Anne is not appreciated in the family.
According to Fortson et al. (2016), the use of substance abuse is a risk factor that could contribute to abuse. The fact that Anne’s mother attended the conference intoxicated is evidence that she engages in substance abuse. Anne’s father doesn’t attend the conference, and her mother seemed less concerned about her situation. Besides, the fact that Anne misses school a day after the confrontation is clear that she was later abused at home.
