Economic Grievances in Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was the written document in which the thirteen

colonies signed the twenty-seven grievance and announced their independence from Great

Britain. It was assumed finally on July 4, 1776 (Gilje, “Declaration of Independence”). It took

more than a year for the process to complete because of the outbreak of the American

Revolutionary War. Thomas Jefferson was the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence.

He was known as a founding father of America because he was dedicated to the settlers’ issues.

The Declaration justified colonial independence by asserting the natural rights of people. In this

document, twenty-seven grievances were written against King George III, regarding various

concerns. The King cut off the trade between the colonies and other parts of the world and

imposed unjust taxes on the settlers. Three taxes that caused economic hardships were the Tea

Act, the Sugar Act, and the Stamp Act. These hardships were the one of the main among the

reasons for the drafting of the Declaration of Independence.

There are were several causes which prompted the American Revolution. The one most

noticeable in the prevalent judgment is was the "expense on tea," forced by Great Britain on her

allowing the British East India Company to cheaply sell its tea to the American colonies. The

In conclusion, it is proven that each grievance written by Thomas Jefferson about the

economic concern are the steps toward the American revolution and their independence from

Great Britain. There are difference grievances regarding economic concerns, among all the most

important were trading and taxing, which made the American colonists to think about their

freedom and built their own world. Hence, the tea acts, sugar acts, and stamp acts are the

economic leading acts for the process of “Declaration of Independence”.
