INSTRUCTIONS ASSIGNMENT / USE POWERPOINT TO DO IT
Checklist for Editing Your Instructions Assignment
Use the following checklist to ensure that your Instructions assignment is successful, effective, and complete.
Your introduction should:
· Describe the process.
· Explain its importance.
· State the goals of the process.
· Include a list of materials, tools, and equipment (if appropriate).
Your instructions should:
· Include numbered steps.
· Use command verbs. (Press the button instead of You should press the button.)
· Use precise terminology.
· Use short, simple sentences.
· Give feedback information after numbered steps. (NOTE: Feedback information is what happens after a step is complete. For example: Press the button. A pop-up window will appear. This underlined feedback information should follow the step that indicates the action the user takes. It should not be a numbered step. Think of it as the result of the step.)
· Include clear warnings and cautions (if necessary).
· Include illustrations located next to the step the illustrate (as appropriate).
· Include consistent formatting for each step, warning, and caution.
· Include consistent punctuation. (HINT: Look for periods – or no periods – at the end of every sentence, step, or item in a bulleted list. Also, compare capitalization from one step to the next and among all your headings.)
· Provide all the information needed to a user who has never performed the process.
Make sure you also include:
· Credit to photos that are not your own.
· A title that identifies the process.
· Instructions in a .ppt, .pptx, .doc, .docx, or .pdf file. (Any other file type cannot be opened and will be marked late.) I STRONGLY recommend saving your file as a .pdf file so that your formatting does not change in the conversion process on Blackboard.
· User Questions, User Responses, and Testing Observations submitted to the Test User Report Materials assignment.
