Planning
____ Identify your goals and objectives
____ Analyze your audience and understand WIIFY (What’s In It For You)
____ Determine and organize the content
____ Tell a story
____ Develop a strong opening
____ Use internal summaries
____ Develop a strong conclusion
____ Practice your presentation
Visuals / Slides
____ Keep it simple: Max 6 lines x 6 words (no sentences)
____ Use the “animation” feature of PowerPoint to build bullet points
____ Replace words with visuals where possible
____ Exclude anything that you don’t intend to discuss
Platform Skills
____ Dress professionally
____ Expand on your slides – don’t read them
____ Maintain eye contact – minimize notes
____ Come out from behind the podium – make contact with your audience
____ “Stand your ground” – don’t wander aimlessly
____ Avoid “um” - and its cousins
____ Smile. Show enthusiasm and confidence. Be aware of your pacing, volume, and tone.
____ Use your hands for emphasis
