__√___ Is there a hook?

· The hook being the shock question of why a sudden reduction in Saudi student enrollment. I would have her pondering several ideas that a more salacious to catch the readers imagination. The reason is given, if it is due to changes in the King’s scholarship.

___√__ Will students be able to identify the key issues or learning objectives?

· The key issue is sustainability and whether the college will be able to continue operating, close program offerings, reduce size or pivot into other education options. I felt as though it were relevant to finance and finding contingencies in financial support. It appears the key issue being drawn out here are the massive contraction of international students, and there is a hint of liberal arts extinction. Students may want to explore the shift in paradigm that is occurring and how there could be causation from the huge push toward STEM in U.S. high schools and workforce preparedness that is refocusing the up and coming graduates on career training at two-year colleges, something that has left a deficiency in our workforce, as the lack of demand for liberal arts jobs are leaving students with high debt and low employment opportunities.

__X___ Are there linkages to theory or models in your field?

· It wasn’t clear to me the business frame works that would fit this case well. Maybe SWOT, or the 3Cs. As far as determining sustainability for the institution, then, the students would have to determine suggested course of action.

__X___ Do the case characteristics match your chosen educational objectives?

· I wasn’t clear on the educational objectives in the case; however, this may be covered in the teaching note.

Details

__√___ Is there sufficient information for students to carry out your desired analysis?

· While there was good data on the reduction in Saudi students and how programs and institutions were affected, I do get the feeling that there was enough information for a student to determine a viable course of action in the case. They may have to do more research into the King’s scholarship changes and the alternatives available for Clark.

__√___ Is there more information than needed? If so, is its purpose

_____ to lend realistic complexity?

__X___ to add interesting details?

· Illustrations show how other institutions and States around the Country are being impacted by the reduction in Saudi students. It’s very interesting in the larger scope of impact.

_____ to allow students to follow “red herrings” and make judgments?

__√___ Are there characters with whom students can identify?

· Yes, one, the protagonist. Students should be able to identify with the problem and impact, allowing them to realize the difficult strategy in improving sustainability efforts.

___X__ Do the characters speak in their own words, when possible?

· There were no direct quotes.

___√__ Is the material organized in a logical fashion?

· Yes. It was very well organized and easy to follow and grasp.

__√___ Are there exhibits, with detailed explanatory material? If not, should there be exhibits?

· The exhibits gave the reader a very clear understanding of the magnitude of the problem in the case.

__√___ Is the timing of events clear?

· Yes, the timing was clear and easily followed.

Style

__X___ Is the case entirely in past tense (except for direct quotes”?

· I didn’t find that it was entirely in the past tense.

__√___ Is the tone objective (i.e., no value judgments such as “obviously,” “excellent manager,” etc., unless they are in direct quotes)?

___√__ Does the case have “life”?

· You can feel a sense of urgency in the case, a problem has presented itself, and needs to be resolved to mitigate deep negative impact.
