Psychology
Checklist –
Use the check sheet below to make sure your paper is the best it can be! Make sure you answer “Yes” to all questions before submitting your paper or you will lose points! Please note that the 7th Edition of the American Psychological Association Publication Manual has some flexibility in terms of language, font, spacing, and other items, but that papers in this course MUST adhere to the guidelines listed below. We use the “Professional” paper format as well (not the student format)

Citations for the literature review |
|
|
|
|
1. Did you cite a minimum of 14 PEER REVIEWED articles? (Two things: websites do not count as peer reviewed, so if you want to include websites, add them in addition to the 14 peer reviewed citations. You can give a lot of detail for some articles you cite but only a sentence or two for others. How much detail you go into depends on how important the article is in helping your support your hypotheses) |
|
|
|
2. Are your citations in APA format (That is, ONLY the last name of the author(s) and date of publication)? a. Note that you do NOT include first names, initials, or the title of the article the authors wrote when citing. That information belongs in the references pages only. b. 8. Do you follow the participant section with materials and procedure? |
|
|
|
11. Is the subsection title “Materials and Procedure” flushed left and in bold? If you are merely using measures (i.e. instruments that measure psychological constructs often used in surveys), feel free to title this section “Measures and Procedure”. |
|
|
|
12. Do you mention the materials and/or measures used in your study (with what did you measure your DV?). Include measure names, citation, the number of items it contains, how each item was rated (e.g., Likert-type rating scale AND its anchors; 1 “strongly disagree” to 5 “strongly agree”), and an example item. If you want each measure to have its own subsection within “Materials and Procedure”, is the subsection title indented and boldface (Week 6 PPT slide 15 for example)? |

|

Each appendix begins on its own page. |

|
|
|

Abstract, Results, Discussion, Appendices
(Grading – 100 Points= 35 points toward Course Grade)
1. (15 points/3.00)) Abstract; Now completed and in past tense:
A. Limited to 120-150 words
B. Let reader know the topic of the study
C. Mention who the participants were
D. Briefly describe methods and procedures
E. Provide a short summary of the results
F. State your conclusions and implications
2. Paper II Corrections Made: MANDATORY
3. (30 points/12.00) Results; Did you…
A. Name the tests/analyses used to test our hypotheses? (e.g., correlation, t-test, Cohen’s D, Levene’s)
B. Statistical Significance achieved or not, mentioned-reject the null or accept the alternate hypothesis stated
C. Give the statistical results of each test, using the proper notation and APA format for these statistics
D. If tables are used, refer the reader to accompanying tables and/or figures when appropriate?
4. (35 points/12.00) Discussion: This should begin by narrowly summarizing your study results and gradually widening to tie the study results back in with the literature (perhaps, but not necessarily, some articles you already discussed in the introduction-- here is your chance to mention literature that proposed potential explanations for similar experiments’ results).
Also include study limitations and end with ideas for future research similar to yours, but improved to address limitations and new ideas that we were unable to address.
I will be looking carefully at the following:
A. Does the discussion start with a summary of your specific ideas and findings and become more general (relating to others’ research in this area) as it progresses?
B. Do you summarize what was found regarding specific hypotheses (verbally, without mentioning any numbers)?
C. Do you briefly mention important limitations of our research? (such as the unique characteristics and possibly questionable generalizability of our sample, limited researcher training, etc.)
D. Do you explain what our results really mean, in your own words?
E. Are the paragraphs well-written?
F. Do the ideas and paragraphs transition well?
G. Do you cite and tie in studies that are appropriate to your topic (comparing and contrasting their results with ours)?
H. Do you remind the reader why research on this topic is important and explain any practical implications it may have?
I. Is the discussion of sufficient length to adequately cover the ideas presented without becoming wordy and redundant?
J. Do you provide ideas for future, related studies?
5. (10 points/1.00) Appendices
A. Demographic Questionnaire (IV) Questions correctly relate to IV
B. Copy of SPSS Print out with the table that shows statistical significance (or no significant) and variables named correctly– if MISSING=FAIL PAPER
Total Points: Out of 100/ = 35
