Women.jpg
Often times in society and culture, social associations are the premises of all that
happens. The manner in which we talk, the workmanship we make are ways we interface with
each other. For instance, poems, pictures and music are artifacts that tie a gathering of
individuals together from different culture and qualities. I discovered a painting called “The
rape of Sabine women” by Pietro da Cortona. Cortona was an Italian painter and architect. In
1626, the Sacchetti family engaged Cortona to paint the large canvas of The Rape of Sabine
women in Rome. He was born Pietro Berrettini, yet is essentially known by the name of his
local town of Cortona in Tuscany. Pietro was born into a family of artisans and masons
After studying this artifact, I analyse that the account of the Sabine ladies is definitely
not a cheerful one. As indicated by Roman folklore, when Rome was established by Romulus
there weren't sufficient Romans, thus the men were urged to kidnap the neighbouring Sabine
women to ensure they had an offspring. The mass kidnapping or assault occurred during a
celebration at which diverse nearby individuals were accumulated. Romans snatched Sabine
ladies, and Romulus begged them to acknowledge these men as their spouses. This wrongdoing
against the Sabine ladies—assaulted or taken, they were persuasively eliminated from their
locale and into relationships with Romans—has been portrayed by numerous craftsmen since
forever, from Degas to Poussin to Picasso.

I found this source useful, as it explains the importance of women in society and tells us how
women overcome the hardships of their life and suffered in their community.

I found this source useful because, in this article, the author explains the painting and the story
behind it. He explains the religious values and morals of the culture.
Loire, S. (1998). Rome: Pietro da Cortona. Burlington Magazine, 140, 219-221
The article Rome: Pietro da Cortona illustrates the paintings of Cortona which
was entirely devoted to his draftsman ship. This article will be useful for the analysis
as it shares background and cultural information about the painter.

In this article, the author explains what other people think and feel about their culture. Is it right
or wrong to treat women like that? It is still questionable thing about this artifact.
