Chapter 9 deals with child-welfare.  This is an important population of social work practice.

Attached below is a Social Study Evaluation a child custody dispute case Dr. Ortiz worked awhile back. He had to interview all parties involved, write a report, and testify in court with his recommendation on who should get custody of the child and why.  However, Dr. Ortiz has omitted his final conclusion and recommendations he made to the court from this report. 

Your mission for this lesson is to read his report, then answer the following:

A.) Counselor Assessment - Here discuss, what you found significant about the case regarding both parties, i.e. concerns or noteworthy points, both good or bad.

B.)  Final Recommendations - Here clearly state who should get custody of the child, and why.  It should look something like this:

1. The ________ of this case should be given Primary Residence of the child.

2. The ________ in this case should be given standard visitation of the child, every 1st, 3rd, & 5th weekend of the month.

3. The ________ should have extended visitation time in the summer.

4. Any other recommendations.

 Then explain why you made the choice you made.
