To analyze film site semiotically, I picked movie “It”. The movie website has its main character, evil clown named Pennywise displayed holding a balloon, which he is using to attract the kid standing in front of him. The bold red color used in the images connotes signs of impending death and danger in the movie. The image of young kid makes the audience feel sympathetic, close and personal. On the website the joker face being dark adds to death connotation, the grey color is cold, it makes the subject appear lifeless, and it also add edgy feel to the movie. Looking at Pennywise face in another picture with big bold eyes, his stare, bold red make up, and eye expression gives a feeling of death staring at you. The background is dark and misty which reflects the horror genre and adds to the atmosphere of the movie. The top middle of the website gives you latest comments from different magazines, newspaper, famous people to attract people attention to watch the movie. The title of the movie is placed on left hand side with tunnel, gives you feeling of going into uncertain world, which connotes death and danger. On the right-hand side, it gives you info how you can pre-order, as its going to be available on Digital and Blue-Ray in December. The website also has gallery of pictures, different video clip related to movie, games like sewer games and the loser’s club, and original soundtrack used in the movie. It also has related video about how to escape town “Derry”. The site gives an idea what you anticipate in the movie and based on my experience, it was more than expected. The site created immense desire to find out more, it creates lot of question in viewers mind and excite people to go watch the movie to fulfill that craving. The movie experience was jaw dropping due to horrifying background music, awesome characters role plays and continuous sense of fear during the whole movie.

The movie website I chose to analyze was the movie called,"Daddy's Home 2." I recently watched it in theaters because I enjoyed the first movie that they came out with. I was surprised that there was a second part of the movie Daddy's Home because the ending for the first movie did not seem like they would come out with a second one. I thought it was interesting since I did not see the point of having the second part of the movie to come out. I thought the movie was just going to leave it as everyone getting along. In the reading of Chapter 4, “The Hollywood Sign: The Culture of American Film,” it brings up the idea that Hollywood is remaking a lot of movies and making sequels as well. "Daddy's Home 2" is a sequel that was made two years after the first one. The time span of the sequel did not take too long to be made and then released. I found their official website to be very busy and interactive. A lot of images are used to catch the views interest. This whole website is Christmas theme to follow up the theme of their movie. It gives you a cover of the movie, an endless list of places and times you can watch the movie as well as a map to show the movie theaters that are playing the movie. The website is very interactive with three videos for viewers to watch, synopses for viewers to read, and gallery from the movie. Overall, the website presents the movie very well with the Christmas theme on their website.

For this week’s response on architypes I chose to watch, “The Country Mouse and Town Mouse”. An architype is essentially the role certain characters play in a story. There are two main characters in this story. This story is about two mice that are friends that meet up and each mouse shows the other mouse how they live in their respective “areas”, so to say. I would say that in this story the country mouse is the “hero” and the town mouse is the trickster. This story starts out with the town mouse meeting the country mouse and they try some of the foods that the country mouse eats daily. The town mouse doesn’t seem to be pleased with the country mouse choice of food and living. They then take a journey to where the town mouse lives and the country mouse sees that there are so many more things to eat where this town mouse lives and is overcome with joy. Soon after they are interrupted by the man and lady of the house who notice that there have been mice in the kitchen, and swiftly call in their cat to take care of the pesky mice. The man, lady, and cat, all act as the villain of this short story, as the mice are afraid for their lives when they enter. This story ends with them getting away safely, but the country mouse decided to never meet up with his friend again as he prefers a simple life with little to no danger, as opposed to the town mouse who lives in constant fear of death, but has many more things to eat. This short story is not long but it is very clear what roles the characters play. The country mouse is the hero of this story as he is the one who makes the better choice at the end to go back to a safer lifestyle. The town mouse I would say is the trickster because it seems like he almost is trying to get into trouble or furthermore goes towards danger rather than away from it. the villians are the the man and lady of the house, along with their cat.

Archetype is a typical example of specific person or thing. I watched “Brother and Sister” under Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics. Main character is the brother and sister, other supportive character is the king, the witch and the king consort. The main character is a girl, “the sister” who is the heroine and main focus of the story. She acts as a defender, warrior and protector for her younger brother, when her mother abuse them after their father’s death. Her step mother is the villain because she is a witch, powerful with knowledge of black magic. Brother and sister life become miserable due to her abusive behavior. The brother is trickster who is always causing chaos. He acts as a harmless prankster or a “bad boy” who is funny and enjoyable. Due to which he first ended up turning into deer in the enchanted jungle after drinking water in the pond cursed by his step mother, the witch. Next time when he acted mischievous as a deer, he showed the young king path to his place, where the young king found his sister as his life partner. The young king in the story act as a savior. As a savior he is overflowing with a desire to be helpful and always reliable in crisis. The young king got her out of her miserable life by marrying her and then he saved her from witch, when the witch captured the girl(sister) in the witch mountain. The king consort is the sidekick. The side kick is the close companion to the hero. He was there when king found his beloved wife, also when he went hunting for the deer, and even when he went to save love of his life from the witch clutches. The film was able to replicate archetype character by using distinct colors, tones, background, scenario and story theme. Everyone in the story fit in archetypal characters on basis of role played in the film. The archetypal characters able to replicate to the extent where one can easily identify who is a hero, and who is a villain and so on.
