CHAPTER 1 ASSIGNMENT

1. Select a recent or vintage movie in which a project is central to the plot. Films for consideration

include Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen, The Core, Mr. Blandings Builds His

Dream House, Mountains of the Moon, The Italian Job, Return of the Jedi, Jaws.

a. Describe this project in terms of the project attributes highlighted in Exhibit 1.2 and

offer a brief explanation for each one. So, for example, you will identify the project’s key

drivers, source, etc., and explain each one in the context of the project in the movie.

Student answers should include the following project attributes:

Driver, Source, Customer, Degree of Certainty, Expected Outcome, Organizational Reach,

Scope, Degree of Complexity, Strategic Level as well as explanations in the context of the

project in the chosen movie.

b. List the five phases of project management presented in this chapter, and describe what

happened during each of these phases in the project depicted in the movie.

Student answers should explain the following project management phases in relation to

the project in the movie: Selection, Initiation, Planning, Delivery, Closure.
