RFID technology operates on the principle that using radio waves to energize tags that can relay information to readers. By embedding a unique identifiable RFID chip into each capsule lid, Coca-Cola has transformed the free refill capsule into an intelligent drinking vessel. This technology will facilitate the sitting of self-service refill stations around a park expanding customer access, reducing queuing times at food outlets, increasing sales at capsules, and enabling a multitude of free refill and marketing opportunities. RFID enabled capsules are scanned by the RFID Disc using the RFID reader. At a self- service refill station, a customer passes the refill capsule over the reader at the refill station. Once the reader confirms that the capsule is allowed to be refilled it makes a high-pitched beeping sound.
