ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING
A project is said to be successful if it has achieved the set objectives and meets or exceeds the expectations of the stakeholders. The stakeholders are the people are directly or indirectly interested in the project being conducted. They are actively involved with the work of a project or they will either loss or gain something because of that project. It is very important to note that stakeholders are very essential in the project since they can either make or break the project.
The enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a system that changes the way businesses go about with their daily business. Many businesses including small and medium-size businesses are the installation of this software with an assurance that these systems will be efficient and beneficial to the business at a realistic rate. Many businesses have shown tremendous success stories which are attributed to ERP system implementation. My project, therefore, is implementing this system in our fabric product manufacturing industry for increased productivity.
Apart from the stakeholders who directly affect the project, there are a few secondary stakeholders which may in one way or the other affect the ERP project implementation. These stakeholders are not the formal members of the project coalition. An example of these stakeholders includes the vendors and consultants. The consultants have involved in descriptive surveys as well as the case studies of the project. They provide knowledge and training to the project teams. On the other hand, vendors provide maintenance and other technical support to the adopting organization (Singh, Singh, & Kaur, 2017). These external stakeholders are helpful in providing consultancy services especially in helping the company in the implementation of effective ERP system they do this by performing information requirement analysis, the recommendation of the suitable computer hardware and software, giving technical support and training the people who will be using the system.
This project is intended to collect information from various basic bossiness processes and storing the data in databases which makes it easily accessible by all the other departments in the company. This there will ensure that the users are able to access much more accurate and update information which will make it easier guiding everyday operation and functions of the company in an efficient manner. The goals and objectives of ERP are achieving potential growth rate through the utilization of new and advanced technology and by practicing the new procedures in our company to ensure success (Dunaway, & Bristow, 2015). Another important goal is having a return on investment. Every business works hard to ensure that they get profits. Looking at a way that this can be easily achieved, ERP is one of the options to easily taking us there through the utilization of the new technologies in the market. Making proper use of this system will not only see the company getting profits, but it will also be useful in the provision of relevant information regarding the available sources and the system will also give relevant information about the progress of the work.
Cycle time is one of the major metrics to monitor the success of the system in related departments. In manufacturing, the cycle time is among the most important metrics since it is used to measure the speed at which the business is responding to the orders of the customers. It measures the length of time it takes to in the production of goods and the delivery to the customer. If the cycle is faster, it means that the process is effective, and the customers are satisfied. This process will help to move from a total spinning capacity of 20 meters to 30 meters of open-end yarn per day
Another important metric is the demand forecasts accuracy. This will help in predicting the future of demand based on the historical numbers. ERP system is said to be very successful if it is capable of accurately monitoring and forecasting and keeping track of the progress of reaching to the predicted numbers.
Customer satisfaction is another very essential metrics since this system directly affects the end users. The new system should, therefore, be capable of meeting the customers’ needs by getting faster and better services. The efficiency of the new system can be gotten from listening to what the customers are saying concerning the services being provided. It is also possible to tell the effect the new system is bringing by checking at how new customers are streaming in and what their sentiments are.
A successful ERP project will enhance good customer relationship management. This is because it will possible to communicate with them and deliver on time. This will increase the quality of services which are offered, shorten the delivery time and improve the performance. Secondly, this process will be very helpful in controlling errors in an organization. This is because there will be correct data input which can be easily tracked. Lastly, this system will give accurate results; increase the flexibility of different operations and improving productivity which in turn will ensure that the business achieves maximum profit (Dunaway, & Bristow, 2015).
