Social interaction consists of many different communicative components:

Used Symbolic Interactionism to show how we actually “act out” our social roles from situation to situation

Impression Management: Preparing for the presentation of one’s social role
This process involves knowing what your Role and your Status are and how to express them outwardly

What are some social roles that you have?
How does your behavior change depending on which role you are occupying?
Audience Segregation
Front Stage Behavior: The front stage is where the actor formally performs and adheres to conventions that have meaning to the audience.
The actor knows he or she is being watched and acts accordingly.
AUDIENCE SEGREGATION
Back Stage Behavior: Where performers are present but audience is not, and the performers can step out of character without fear of disrupting the performance.
The back stage is completely separate from the front stage. No members of the audience can appear in the back. The actor takes many methods to ensure this.
When performers are in the back region, they are nonetheless in another performance: that of a loyal team member.
