Week 9 Assignment: Snack Company Case Study (MGT)
Due Week 9 and worth 150 points
Imagine you are a manager at a major potato chip/snack company. Customers have begun to complain that the bags of the leading flavor of potato chip produced in your company contain less than the advertised twenty (20) ounces of product by weight. Your supervisor wants to solve the problem at hand and has asked you to investigate.
You have your employees pull thirty (30) bags off the line at random from all the shifts at the production plant. You ask your employees to measure the weight of chips there is in each bag. The results of your sample and your calculations are shown in the Excel file provided in the assignment instructions in Blackboard.
Write a two to three (2–3) page report using the provided template in which you:
1. Construct a box-and-whisker plot for the weight of chips in the bags.
1. Copy the sample mean, median, and standard deviation for weight of chips in the bags.
1. Copy the 95% Confidence Interval for the weight of chips in the bags.
1. Conduct a hypothesis test to verify if the claim that the bags contain less than twenty (20) ounces is supported. Clearly state the logic of your test, the calculations, and the conclusion of your test.
1. Provide the following discussion based on the conclusion of your test:
4. If you conclude that there are less than twenty (20) ounces in a bag of chips, speculate on three (3) possible causes. Next, suggest the strategies to avoid the deficit in the future.
Or
4. If you conclude that the claim of less than twenty (20) ounces of chips per bag is not supported or justified, provide a detailed explanation to your boss about the situation. Include your speculation on the reason(s) behind the claim, and recommend one (1) strategy geared toward mitigating this issue in the future.
