celebrity and fan culture
How celebrity fan culture affects social culture
By: Carmen Ballesteros Botin
Media, celebrities and social influence
Powerful influence that celebrities can have on those who identify closely with their mediated images.
Role modeling values – for example, athletes. Somebody you look up to
People developing strong identification with these role models
Celebrity identification and their mediated social influence
Celebrity influence through social media
Change the way we look or act
Boost your character
What makes someone a celebrity is their ability to gain attention
Looking down on yourself after comparing their look to the pictures and wanting to change
Changing looks, behavior, good influence? Changing yourself
Positive side
Some celebrities inspire us in a positive way
Showing passion for example sports men making them push harder at a certain sport, or keep working at a talent because its all worth it in the end
Promoting things like charities is a positive side to having a larger audience
Negative side
Being good looking is how someone defines you
When a celebrity decides to change their lifestyle, so do many others by setting ”trends”
Becoming insecure because of the standards being set.
Changing the way you do things because they think its “cool”
Conclusions
Everything goes through social media which is being used on a daily base
Good or bad, people will change because of it
Having a role model is great, but having it for the right reason is more important
In all, people change, instead of changing to fit in, or to look/feel cool, try changing to be better you
