Subject: Request to Conduct Research on Hiring Bias towards Elite/Top College Employees

Summary

Being customer-centric has become more than vital in modern business operations to survive in a competitive environment. Working as a client service team support means that the support group must ensure that the client services team works optimally to reach the service demands. This aspect comes forth with ensuring that the people hired by the company are qualified, represent a diverse nature of the organization, and have excellent teamwork performance. To attain this, I propose that the company sets new recruitment measures and metrics to ensure that it hires qualified candidates while avoiding any form of bias, primarily educational background, as this has highly affected the company. Comment by Author: Usually a memo is formatted single-space, no indents, and an extra space between paragraphs. Check with the professor on format! Also, capitalize the first letter of the main words in a heading. Comment by Author: Are you supposed to be proposing to research the topic, or have you already done the research and are presenting the findings? The “thesis” or point statement would go here. I think this works if this is a memo reporting your research, but if you are just proposing to do research, it might be better as: To attain this, I propose to research recruitment measures and metrics that can lead to the hiring of qualified candidates while avoiding any form of bias, primarily educational background, as this has highly affected the company. This isn’t much different, but would work better if you are supposed to propose research rather than report it. (I don’t know which you are doing, but the assignment says, “Memo: Request to Conduct Research on Hiring bias towards Elite/Top College Employees “ Check with the professor?

What the Problem Is and Why It Needs to Be Investigated

The problem we are facing as an organization is that we are having teamwork problems MAYBE BE MORE SPECIFIC HERE SO THAT YOU DON’T REPEAT “PROBLEM?” LIKE—IS THAT EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT AND TEAMWORK HAVE BECOME QUITE CHALLENGING. whereby it has become quite challenging to manage employees. It has raised the issue related to workforce performance. MORE SPECIFIC? THE RECIPIENTS ARE THE HR MANAGERS, SO THEY WILL WANT SPECIFICS, LIKE—THE CONFLICT WITHIN THE TEAM HAS NEGATIVELY AFFECTED WORKFORCE PERFORMANCE. This challenge is not because the support team is inefficient but because of the roles assigned to different employees. TRANSITION HERE? MAYBE SAY WHAT THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE ELITISM PROBLEM? TRY SOMETHING LIKE: This challenge is not because the support team is inefficient but because THE ASSIGNMENT OF ROLES APPEARS TO BE BIASED TO SOME EMPLOYEES.

NEW PARAGRAPH HERE? YOU’RE GETTING INTO THE SPECIFIC PROBLEM, AND YOU MIGHT START WITH A FOCUSED TOPIC SENTENCE, LIKE- THE APPEARANCE OF BIAS TOWARDS CERTAIN EMPLOYEES IS CAUSING RESENTMENT AMONG THOSE WHO SEE THEMSELVES AS UNFAVORED. (OR WHATEVER THE IMPRESSION IS FROM THE COMPLAINING WORKERS.) When we are hiring new teammbers, the issue of bias has come up because the company tends to favor candidates from highly ranked schools. This hiring practice has cost the business various clients and failed teamwork. Often, individuals from higher-ranked learning institutions tend not to acknowledge teamwork, which can affect how a business performs. Comment by Author: Do you want to “hedge” your conclusion here, so that it doesn’t sound like you’ve made up your mind? You can say, This hiring practice might cost the business various clients and failed teamwork.

Also, the problem is affecting the diverse aspect of the company. The company is going against its values about diversity in hiring. When we talk about diversity in hiring, people often think primarily about gender and race but very little about educational background. “Elitist recruitment” poses a problem for the organization because it fails to acknowledge and practice the whole concept of diversity. Diversity remains an essential part of any business, and failure to accommodate people from all forms of educational background can negatively cost the business. Comment by Author: When you use “it”, make sure you’re clear on what “it’ is. I always try to replace it with specific nouns if possible.

What Secondary Research I Have Conducted about the Problem

The secondary research that I have conducted indicates that elitism affects numerous companies, not just this company. Research focusing on employee hired, SUCH AS (1 SOURCE), notes that many candidates come from elite schools. The most prestigious employers seek candidates from prestigious schools, forgetting that those from "other" schools also deserve a chance and could have better chances at improving the company brand. Scholars predict that students from Ivy League schools might damage teamwork BECAUSE? SAY WHY?. The literature MAYBE MENTION A SPECIFIC RESEARCHER WHO HAS DONE RESEARCH THIS? LIKE—FOR EXAMPLE, JONES ET AL. (2018) further indicates that such graduates center more on instrumental tasks and forget to pay close attention to establishing interpersonal relationships. Also, when hired, teamwork is merely a vocabulary word in their world considering their desire to be competitive, forgetting that achieving the best outcomes in a business requires effective and well-grounded teamwork. YOU PROBABLY NEED TO ATTRIBUTE THIS TO A SOURCE SO THAT IT DOESN’T SOUND LIKE JUST YOUR OPINION. Comment by Author: Here in the secondary research section, be sure and mention actual sources rather than general “research”.

What Primary Research I Will Conduct about the Problem

My primary research will entail interviews and questionnaires to seek the views of the company staff regarding their thoughts on the hiring basis of the company. This practice will also help me determine if the employees realize the situation and if they acknowledge it as one of concern or not. The interview will take place for three consecutive days whereby I will contact certain staff members and interview regarding the hiring done at the company and their perception of it.

As for the use of questionnaires, this survey will have specific questions that will seek to address the possible ways to approach the hiring basis of the company. The questionnaires will also seek the educational background of each staff to determine the number of people from elite schools.

Why We Will Benefit from My Research and Recommendations

There will come great benefits from considering my proposal to consider the issue of hiring bias based on educational background. I am not saying that the organization should not hire candidates from higher-ranked learning institutions. Instead, I need the management to acknowledge that sometimes, it is wise to consider the type of role that requires filling and the best candidate for that position. The organization will benefit from this because it will have better metrics to determine the right candidate for a particular role. It will also produce a diverse hiring culture which will attract skilled candidates. Lastly, the company will have improved workforce performance because candidates can work better in a team, thus generating better outcomes. Comment by Author: A transition like “Instead” or “however” or “rather” will indicate that this sentence is in contrast to the last one.

Conclusion

The company is still growing, but obstacles like hiring bias hinder its swift growth. The company must have effective employee engagement practices, enhanced employee satisfaction, and diverse culture in the current competitive market. As a company, we should always strive to attract suitable candidates with the required job skills instead of simply focusing on those from higher-ranked learning institutions. With your permission, I will conduct extensive research to provide you with a strategy that, as a company, we can use in our hiring process and indicate the benefits associated with that strategy.
