Causes and Effects of Immigration

Immigration is the international movement of non-native people from their place to a different country for the purposes of settlement, work or temporary employment as a foreigner in the aim of making their lives better. In the year 2015, the numbers of immigration worldwide has incredibly increased to approximately 244 million people which is 40% increase on the rate of immigration since 2000. The largest number of the immigrants live in United States constituting to 20% of the World’s total immigrants (Sources: write the last name of author or use the title + paragraph number). However, there are a lot of causes and effects of immigration which positive and negative on an individual and society.

Political reasons are one of the most central factors that affect the population immigration and stability. Wars or state policies that repress certain groups of citizens because they have different religious beliefs or ethnic backgrounds or political opponents are one of the main reasons that lead to the immigration of many people to safer countries. According to the National Geographics’ Earth Pulse, there are approximately 42 million people worldwide who have been forced to migrate due to war. War and armed conflict have diverse causes but all these factors are influenced by political issues. War migrants not only migrate to the usual countries such as United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, they also migrate within their own geographical areas such as within their continent. Brutally displaced people in the sub-Saharan countries have found their refuge in Libya. Most war migrants become refugees or asylum seekers.

Economic reasons are such as anticipating for better living standard motives causing immigration. Everyone in the community aspires to live comfortably with family members. When economic level is unbearably low, some consider moving to more developed countries. Developed countries and large cities are interested in new workers and are trying to open new jobs and employ people born abroad .The Philippines have opened up new labor markets and have demand of workers because of the significance impact that enabled the country to recover from its economic problems (Sources: write the last name of author or use the title + paragraph number). Also, some countries have a significant shortage of work force and are ask workers from abroad to meet the need. The Gulf countries and other regions such as the East and South Asia are in continua demand for workers in their country and this fuels migration. Kenneth J Pakenham, Jo McEntire, and Jessica Williams give example of Qatar, UAE, and Kuwait, where there are more jobs than citizens.

As an addition to these causes, immigration has also several effects on individual and society.

Despite the multiple causes of immigration, it has many benefits for the individual. One of the benefits of migration is that it provides the security and safety factor for all fugitives from the darkness of wars of all kinds. Immigration also helps to improve the economic conditions of the individual and his or her family, especially if migration is motivated by escape from economic conditions in the country of origin. Immigration also increases the mixing of races and peoples and helps to increase cultural exchange among nations. Migration helps to increase the person's knowledge of himself, his abilities, and his talents. Immigration makes the personality of the individual better by integrating it into an environment that is alien to him. Immigration help their to strengthen them self-confidence and increase their dependence on it. This is the secret of the success of many immigrants who left their home for certain reasons (I need example with write the Sources: write the last name of author or use the title + paragraph number).

Although immigration has many benefits, it also has the adverse impact on the individual. Many immigrants are in search of better economic and social conditions in the new country. However the cost of immigrating is high and many of them are not ready to liquidate their assets so as to be able to move. Some of the immigrant have no source of livelihood and this necessitates them to find work once they get settle which is not guaranteed and this leads to embarrassment and giving up on some immigrants. Assimilation of the immigrant to the new life in the new country is a major challenge to most of them. Immigrants usually take low earning wage jobs which may not enable them to live in reference to the standard of living in the new country. Most of the immigrant must endeavor to learn and be familiar with the law and language of the new country.

As immigration has benefits to the individual, it also has many benefits to society. We know that most of the major industrialized countries that receive immigrants come from the major developing countries. Where the migrant is doing things that the indigenous people cannot do or do not know how to do. Migrant workers work more extended hours, contributing to increased production in these countries. The migrant earns a lower salary than the indigenous population, which contributes to savings in the state budget (I need example with write the Sources: write the last name of author or use the title + paragraph number) Also, the migrant raises his skills and makes every effort to prove himself in his work, which contributes to increasing the quality of production. Industrial countries also benefit from the positive energy of immigrants and their creative ideas for the development of state enterprises.

In a conclusion, immigration has a lot of causes and impacts that improves or detriments the economic situation of the new country. The reason and causes of many immigrants have been justified in search of better jobs thus new lifestyle or upgrading their standards of living.
