Dear Educator,

Thank you for your interest in CATTAIL! We are pleased that you have decided to apply for our support and technical assistance as you embark on the exciting adventure of starting your own school.

So that we may better serve you, please submit the required packet of information via the Assignment link in Module 14, by FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14 at 11:59 PM. You will be asked to showcase your school by briefly summarizing the key points on the final Blackboard discussion board.

The following information must be submitted in your “packet.” Please identify each section, and put them in order. THESE SHOULD ALL BE IN ONE document, rather than separate ones! Include at least ONE reference (textbook,pg. #; article review, etc.) for each section (these do NOT have to be new resources; citing information that you’ve read and found meaningful in the text is perfect!)

1) The cover sheet (complete and submit attached form or a page with the same info with the rest of your packet)

2) A statement of the school’s philosophy (refer to Ch. 6, and your own evolving philosophy)

3) A description of the school’s curriculum, classroom management and teaching methods, including the use of technology (refer to Chapters 10, 11, and 12 for ideas)

4) A statement about how your school will be governed and financed (refer to Chapter 8)

5) Information about how your school will address the following issues:

a. Diversity among the student body (Ch. 3, 4)

b. Inclusion of individuals with special needs (Ch. 3)

c. Parent involvement (Ch. 5)

6) A paragraph (each) about how your school will handle the ramifications of the four following legal issues: (Ch. 9):

a. Religion and the Law

b. Permissible Search and Seizure

c. Corporal Punishment

d. Teacher behavior outside of school

7) An advertisement for teaching staff, including qualifications, characteristics, salary and benefit information (Ch. 1; or online resources)

8) An InTASC Standard reflection on the whole process.

Again, thank you for your interest in CATTAIL, and in reforming American education! We look forward to receiving your packet so that we may assist you in fulfilling your vision!

Sincerely,

Jeanette Piaget

Director

Spelling, grammar and punctuation DO count! If your paper has more than 5 errors, your grade will be dropped by 5%; if you have more than 10 errors, it will be dropped by 10%.

Please note: This rubric cannot be computed into a grade by merely multiplying numbers. If you have all “2’s”, it will be the equivalent of 80%, B. Each “three” will add 3 % points to your score, with a total of 101% possible. (Hey, it’s my assessment and if you can create a school that meets all the criteria so completely, you deserve 101%!)

And last but not least: have a little fun with this if you can. Each of you has learned quite a bit about education this semester. Use this as an opportunity to get imaginative and create a school where you would love to learn and teach.
