Case Study: Shareholders or Stakeholders?

Article Review and Critique

Please critically review the attached three articles:

· The Dumbest Idea in the World: Maximizing Shareholder Value

· The Shareholders vs. Stakeholders Debate

· Profits without prosperity

In approximately two or three pages (typewritten and double-spaced), critique the articles, considering the following:

1. The source of the contents (is the information from a reputable source, or is the information mostly an individual author’s opinion?)

2. The objective of the firm – value maximization (according to our textbook)

3. The strengths and weaknesses of each article – cite excerpts as examples

4. The similarities and differences among the three articles (how they are alike and different – compare and contrast) – use examples

5. Which article you valued/liked the best, and thought reflected your personal values, and why?

This writing activity involves analysis, evaluation and synthesis – all important critical thinking skills for graduate students.
