In the course HR410 Employee Training and Development, one of the course outcomes is to explain why training and business strategy should be aligned. Another outcome is to apply the employee development planning process. During my 20 years in retail banking I have interviewed and paired new hires with the appropriate branches. In the interview process I learned to express all expectations of the role the candidate would be hired for. This ensured that right fit for the role.

I trained bankers, tellers and fellow teller coordinators. While training, I taught them their training relates to the business. As frontline employees, they would see most of the customers and were trained to process teller transactions, provide superior customer service, sale and cross sale. I explained to them the banks policies and procedures and then compliance.

I would observe the new hires for 2 days before I design their training plans/schedules. I would apply my observations to their training schedules. I would have a weekly sit down with them to review how the learning plans were going. This helped me to evaluate if and what changes were needed to be made to their training. It isn’t an innovative idea to cram training (L, Alton 2017) I would then report my finding to the branch manager.

I manage the training of multiple new hires and current employees. During the training and development of employees I was able to recognize potential and help plan career goals. Some employees struggled with time management and career goals. I assisted them with prioritizing and time managing. I also identified strengths and weaknesses. I used role play to help overcome weakness. I used more challenging duties to enhance strengths.

My training process was adopted by several others in my district. I managed the people and the process. Once the training was over I was able to assess career goals and help develop the employee to get to the next level. My training process has helped employees with promotions both internal and external. I learn new things almost daily and I apply all things to learned to all those who wants to learn. After all, “the best learners make the best teachers” (Administrate).
