Major Problem: Site the problem or managerial dilemma
Remember, “The problem named is the problem solved.”
Minor Problem: What are some of the other problems?
Evidence of Problem: Financial statements, record of sales, public relation problems, staff turnover, quality issues, customer service complaints, etc.
Section II- Supporting Facts/Summary of Facts
Fact field- background and supporting info take from reviewing the case
Existing solutions/research on ways to solve the problem.
Best practices of industry leading organizations
How have other organizations dealt with similar issues
Section III- Analysis
What your understanding of the situation is, what the causes may be and what the final state or position of the organization should be.
Literature review and bibliography information will impact analysis,
Section IV Alternative Solutions (three- five alternatives)
Course of Action (COA) what are the possible solutions to the problem? Develop several alternative solutions, with the pros and cons of each. Then compare and contrast, or war game the solutions to determine which COA will provide the best solution for the current situation. The first solution is always, “Do Nothing” as leaving the status quo in place is a COA, what would happen if the organization leaves the situation as is? Then start listing alternate solutions.

Pro: i.e. Will not alienate primary market
Con: i.e. Declining sales financial ruin

There is no minimum or maximum number of COAs to develop, but 3-5 is a good framework.
