Overview.

Asthma is one of the respiratory problems associated with conditions that affect and perhaps narrow human airways. These conditions may also lead to swelling of the airways along with prosecution of extra mucus that clogs and hamper effective breathing among asthmatic people (Pichardo, 2020). Asthma may be triggered by frequent exposure to airborne allergens such as mold, dust, pollen, or mites. Perhaps asthma may be caused by infections such as colds, flu, or sinusitis.

What may be causing (etiology) J.S. to have an exacerbation of asthma?

Based on the case study presented, exacerbation of asthma leads to a progressive increase of breathing challenges that results in shortness of breath as well as chest tightness. From the scenario presented in the J.S situation, it can be that the patient experienced acute asthma because of various reasons (Morris, 2019). For one, it can be argued that persistent hypersensitive reactions of the body especially the respiratory structures led to increased inflammation and infiltration of the airways along with the hypertrophy of the smooth muscle leading to difficulty when breathing. Also, agents such as irritants, occupational exposure might have led to J.S developing an exacerbation of asthma (Sawicki, 2020).

Identify the treatment provided in the emergency department. What additional therapies are needed to mitigate the asthma symptoms and return the client to wellness?

Exacerbation of asthma is dangerous because it can be life-threatening if better treatment approaches are not deployed during emergency admission. To help manage ad get asthma under immediate control, clinicians should administer short-acting beta-2 agonistic therapy. A good example of it is albuterol and this must be given administered along with supplemental oxygen to help the patient breathe with ease.
